Mount Kaputar Summit, Narrabri, New South Wales, Australia
Australian Landscape Photography by Michael Boniwell. All images copyright. This is a tack sharp 100 megapixel image, suitable for enormous enlargements. View Larger on Chockstone Photography At Standing at top the summit of Mount Kaputar, 52km East of Narrabri in northern New South Wales is quite an experience. There’s 360 degree views taking in the Grattai Wilderness and Moree to the north, Liverpool Ranges and Boomi Creek to the east and the vast plains of Ningadhun to the west. What’s more, you get all of this from a lookout you can drive right up to. Be aware, however, the said drive, whilst sealed, isn’t for the faint of heart. At least at the time of writing this there’s a few places where two cars cannot pass each other and something of a death plunge one side. Take it slow and turn your lights on. The rugged peaks in this area formed some 20 million years ago from volcanic activity. Now it’s home to arid woodlands, wet eucalypt forests and subalpine heaths, and makes a great place for bush walking.
