Mallard Ducks Mating
It is mating season for birds in North America. Recently, I observed and photographed mallard ducks in their mating practices. In this image, the male "mounted" the female while they were both in the water. He was holding her by the neck, which I first thought was part of his "passion". While that might have been true, I also think he was holding her head above water. Before I began shooting, there was a lot of mating behaviour going on between these two birds. Image captured in the Fraser River Delta of south west British Columbia, Canada, with a Nikon D300, Nikkor 600 mm lens with 1:4 teleconverter, ISO 500, f9, 1/640s.
