View Larger on Chockstone Photography Built in 1942 out of river stones Keebles Hut was originally intended to be a fishing lodge. It’s only a short four wheel drive from the popular Geehi Flats rest area. Nestled right alongside the Swampy Plain River it makes for a dreamy campsite complete with the prerequisite rope dangling from a rivergum permitting an icy plunge for adventurous children. At dawn the fog lifts slowly to reveal the mountain range, snow-capped in winter, and slowly paint the scene with light. It’s a joy to behold. I’d camped here a few times over the years but never managed to get the right combination of cloud, colour and fog to bring the shot to life until one winter snow trip found me here again for a few nights. With the place to myself I could really appreciate the magic of this location. It really is a hidden gem. It can be packed with campers at Geehi Hut whilst nearby Keebles Hut is serenity incarnate.
