View Larger on Chockstone Photography Gundagai is small country town just off the hume freeway about half-way between Melbourne and Sydney. From my childhood memories it was always a stopping point on such a big family trip. As kids we wanted to see where the "dog sits on the tucker box", from the famous Australian poem “Bullocky Bill”, though more probably it was just a chance to get out of the rusty old Holden station wagon and run around a bit. What is possibly less known about Gundagai are its interesting trestle bridges over the Murrumbidgee River’s flood plains with their ancient wooden trusses. Set amongst grazing land that is lush with greenery in winter, they make for an iconic rural scene.
