Geehi Hut sits snuggled beside the Swampy Plain River in Kosciuszko National Park. Built for grazing and fishing in 1952, the hut has been made entirely from river rocks. If you are sick of the winding roads and want to break the drive to or from Thredbo, it makes for a perfect camping and picnic spot.
Having already photographed this location many times over the years, I wanted to find a composition that was little less obvious than merely walking to the hut and placing the subject in front of the camera. The river is delightfully fresh and clear. It really is a feature of this area, and a reason in and of itself, to stop here on a hot day.
Placing the river as my foreground completely changed the aspect of this marvellous mountain hut. Suddenly it went from feeling remote and wild, to evoking an invitation to rest and replenish. A little morning mist lingered, as the sun rose behind the dwelling adding that something extra to an already lovely scene.
