View Larger on Chockstone Photography Cape Byron Lighthouse resides in the far northern end of NSW and is the most easterly lighthouse in Australia. Built in 1899 it stands atop a 100m cliff that faces the crashing waves of the ocean below. One thing I love about Byron Bay is that it’s not overly commercial. It’s absent of the high-rise flats, traffic and hassle that mark the Gold Coast further north. On the other hand it’s got some great eateries, a nice clean beach and a bit of a groovy, almost hippie-like vibe of a nighttime with live music often playing and many people lounging by the sea of an evening. Just be sure of avoid Schoolies week. Caught here in the dawn glow, the lighthouse strikes a fine pose, braced against the off-shore breeze.
