Tasting the Wine by Adelaide Artist Avril Thomas at Magpie Springs
Magpie Springs a rustic vineyard farm very close to McLaren Vale in the Adelaide Hills Wine Region. The property has some of the oldest vines in the Southern Adelaide Hills. Our vineyard, homestead, art gallery and cellar door in the centre of the Fleurieu Peninsula is nestled back from B34, the main road from Hahndorf to Willunga Hill. We are half way from Adelaide to Victor Harbor. Our vines, organically grown since 2013 have been under a restoration process and are now producing premium fruit. 5 different winemakers purchase our fruit. We have our own brand, but our wines are very boutique only sold onsite.
We grow Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Shiraz.
The buildings an eclectic mix, having been built largely from salvage material.
Onsite is a Cellar door - you can purchase wines to take home or enjoy in our garden. (Book well in advance for an individualized wine taste followed by a platter and a glass of wine in our garden – or group bookings - ring to book)
In the Art Gallery expect to see original art. The works are by Avril Thomas – a demonstration of style in oils/ graphite / charcoal. To commission an original work please ask at the cellar door. The garden is surrounded by vines. It’s well established with shady trees. It has a rambling cottage feel with a view to a large dam. Many couples have chosen our garden in which to get married. The weddings are always completely unique and personal.
