Theme: The Human Form
For our purposes, “human form” focuses on the actual shape and form of the human, which reflects character, emotion, persona, gender, and perhaps other characteristics. This is not a Portrait workshop, however, but a Figurative workshop.

To inspire you, we have selected a number of photographs, offered by Photographer members of Solo Exhibition and RedBubble to add to the “Workshop Catalog”.

In order to create art or photography directly based or referencing these works, you will need to download a Solo-provided template Agreement, fill in the blanks, and contact and send this agreement to the photographer. If they agree, and all parties digitally sign, then simply post the agreement back here, and get started sharing works in progress!

To start, there will be a maximum of two “direct translations” allowed per photograph. However the number of works only “referencing” the human form, will be up to the photographer’s discretion.

You will also notice that there are images from the public domain added to the catalog. Although no one will stop you from doing a direct copy from one of these master works, as this is one way artists have traditionally trained, in the workshop, we prefer that you use the human form in these as a reference for your work; and created something original in content.

Considering that these will be used mostly for reference, and that they are public domain, there will be no limits on number of times, these works may be used.

  1. Be creative and selective with elements.
  2. Challenge yourself!
  3. Growth comes from sharing Works in Progress (“WIPs”), as you go along.

Learning, growing, challenging, and satisfying your own curiosity should be the goal of everyone participating in the workshop.

Sharing work while in progress, before moving to the next phase, may seem daunting, at first. But once you start doing it, you’ll find that it is the growth hormone you may have been missing— truly an inspirational experience. Some cheat themselves of this experience, by posting WIPs all in one go, or only after they have passed that session and seen that their work is going well. This is not in the spirit of the workshop, because it cheats not only the artist, but the other participants, as well.
