The Best in Science Fiction ~ Sci Fi/Fantasy

Earth: 3016

This challenge closed over 2 years ago.

The Challenge

~ Who and what might we find on and near the Earth by 3016? ~

Your Mission, should you choose to accept it… show us not necessarily THE future, but A Future!

Assuming we’ll be branching out by then, the Territory is the Earth and our whole solar system! NOT distant stars or exo-planets, please.. that will be a separate challenge for another time.

Remember, this is Science Fiction not Prediction! So the wilder the better. You don’t have to believe it; just imagine it and let us see your vision, story or scenario! Your imagination is the Limit, here!

(But do retain a little Science in your Sci Fi… no abstracts, no cartoony animals, no simplistic graphics: we should see a scene and place, whether land or sea or space, we can recognize… no matter how strange, no matter how things have changed by then.)

Remember : Earth and Solar System only! The moon, Mars, Titan Ganymede, etc. ~ fine. Dwixxiliferous in the constellation Pegasus ~ no.

FAN ART ELEMENTS are okay to use, but your SCENE, or future, should be uniquely your design! In other words, include the Tardis or the Enterprise, etc., if you like ~ but MAKE THE SCENE UP, yourself! Over-all, your work must be original. (Trek, Dr. Who, Firefly, etc., all have futures of their own but those have been portrayed already. We want YOUR ideas here, not theirs!)

Even if in your scenario the Earth is gone by then, we still want to see what inter-stellar travellers (maybe aliens) would find upon returning to our soar system in a thousand years. That’s a lot of time in which a lot of things could happen, you’ll agree.

Fictional elements are welcome (of course), whether mutants, robots, cyborgs, aliens ~ whether high-tech cities with star ports and transport beams ~ pastoral farmlands in a beautifully restored ecology ~ water creatures only, on a flooded planet ~ ice-creatures on a glaciated world ~ or on a darker note, lava-fields over-run by lava-loving monsters from Andromeda! Anything in sci fi goes.

All mediums are welcome ~ drawings, paintings, Bryce, Photoshop, etc. Style and approach are up to you, whether humorous or serious, whether Dark of Light. But do remember, this challenge is for ILLUSTRATIVE ARTWORK: not simple sketches, generic shirt-designs or graphics.

Also, USE THE IMAGE-ONLY DEFAULT, please! Mugs, totes, i-phone covers, shirts and leggings WILL be disqualified. As always, artwork must comply with ALL our rules and guidelines (see our group home page for more on that).

Older work is fine ~ new is better yet. But NO PAST 1st PLACE WINNERS from the group. Lets give everyone a chance! Top 10’s are fine, as are images which may have won in other groups.

We need at least 13 entries to continue the challenge! Preferably, more! So get creative ~ enter! If less, we’ll have to cancel. And that would be a shame: challenges are half the fun of groups. :-)

Judging / Voting Criteria

Vote for more than one. Base your votes on creativity, artistic merit and how well the image fits the challenge theme.

As always, No Soliciting for Votes. Any member caught padding the ballot box either via Bubblemail, Facebook or any other venue will have their work removed.

VOTES are IMPORTANT! If you enter, please participate!

Rewards & Prizes

In addition to the pride of winning and the recognition, Winner gets a winner’s banner, special mention on our Group Home Page and a permanent feature in our Forum. He or she will also be among our Featured Artists in the group.

1st Place Ties are recognized so if we have more than one, all winners win.

If we have more than 20 entries we will recognize the Top 10 who also get a banner and a place of honor on our Winners Page provided entries have some votes.

Additional Information

Please be sure your entry is accepted in the group by voting time!

_All entries not compliant with our focus, group requirements and/or the challenge theme and challenge rules, will be removed. It’s only fair to everybody else who’s playing by the rules.

Looking forward to some wild and creative work! Hope you’ll have some fun with this!
