Classic Science Fiction ~ Sci Fi/Fantasy

Sci Fi Art: The BEST! ($20 voucher)

This challenge closed over 5 years ago.

The Challenge

Bonus Challenge!

The rules for this are simple: enter what you feel is your BEST ~ positively best ~ Science Fiction Art!

Any medium: drawings, paintings, Bryce, Photoshop, etc.

Only artwork, please! (If you have a Dynamite Design for a t-shirt, please re-submit it as an image (JPG), then it will qualify. Either way, the entry should exhibit innovation, creativity, artistic excellence and be instantly recognizable as a science fiction work. NOT JUST TEXT!

Not just science… not high fantasy – not horror. Artwork for this challenge should be of highest caliber: the type of story-telling image likely to be seen on novel-covers, magazines, possibly tv. Keep in mind, science fiction should be fiction, first and foremost: so your image ought to tell, suggest, or exemplify a science fiction STORY.

This should involve a Science Fiction Theme: time-travel, space-travel, other worlds, other stars, other Universes… which are settings (something should be “going on” to make a story there).

Stories also need some characters, so bring on the EBE’s, the androids, the robots, the aliens – and/or, of course the Humans. And while you’re at it if you want to, show us their gadgets, gizmos, com-devices, star-cruisers, battleships, time machines, houses, cities, weaponry… maybe their hats, boots and jackets, if you choose.

Fan Art (tribute work) acceptable, but must be creative and interpretive (ie, nothing copied verbatim from the source). In other words, photos of Capt. Kirk, Spock, Dr. Who (whichever doctor), daleks, cybermen, et al — no. Original drawings/paintings – yes. Setups using figures – yes. Please use discretion here. We do not encourage or accept copy-right infringements; and as always the legal ramifications of any such submissions are with you, the artist.

Technically, it isn’t “possible” to hold two $20 voucher challenges in any given month… but this is Sci Fi! We do not accept that anything’s Impossible! (ok, the truth — an extra $20 voucher is available thanks to a donation. Therefore, yes, this is a BONUS $20 voucher challenge!)

So let’s see the Best of the Best… of your Best Science Fiction Art! And if in doubt (it isn’t all that easy picking out the Best), think of entering your favorite sci-fi work.

Doesn’t have to be Most Popular – doesn’t have to top your sales list: if YOU like it best or even if A Lot — and if it tells a sci-fi story – that would be the one.

So let’s see your imagery of far-flung adventures set in the outer realms of space ~ time ~ imagination ~ and the Great Unknown called the Universe!

Judging / Voting Criteria

Please vote for more than one. Base your votes on science fiction content, artistic excellence, creativity and innovation!

As always, No Soliciting of Votes. Any member caught padding the ballot box either via Bubblemail, Facebook, or any other venue will have their work removed and also be deleted from the group. It may sound harsh but soliciting for votes is FRAUD, especially when monetary prizes are involved. So play fair! Let the artwork win on merit, not on popularity.

VOTES are IMPORTANT! If you enter, please participate!

Rewards & Prizes

The winner will receive a $20 voucher from the Bubble (provided that it has at least 5 votes), as well as a winners banner; and the work will be show-cased in our Forum and our Group Home Page.

Because this is a BONUS challenge, there is only one voucher available: therefore, ONLY the image designated as “the winner” by the Bubble gets the prize. However, in the event of a tie other winners get the rest of it… (banners, Forum features, mention on our group home page).

Runners up also get a banner and a mention, if the entries get at least 3 votes. (If we have more than 25 entries this will be the Top 10. If less, we will recognize the Top 5.)

In addition, the winning entry will become our newest avatar if in horizontal format! If it’s vertical, we’ll use it for a banner. (Verticals don’t work for avatars).

Additional Information

Work must be accepted in the group by voting time to qualify.

Be sure your work adheres to the focus of the challenge and the rules of the group! All entries deemed otherwise WILL be removed at the discretion of the hosts.

I have used my own artwork for the cover image here – first of all, because according to our rules I can’t enter anyway as host, so this is the only way I can participate. Also, I feel that to use someone else’s image might have a tendency to sway the vote – - which doesn’t seem so fair.

This is not my “favorite” sci-fi work but as with avatars, challenge covers must be horizontal or they get clipped off! Either way I’m rather happy with it — here it is. lol

Good luck to all – looking forward to a lot of awesome work!
