The Challenge

The first in our new challenge layout catering for all aspects of nature for us nature lovers.

As you can see the title will start with the category which will make it easier for me when choosing what challenge to do next, I can see the challenges I have already run in this category.

Interesting Facts

> The part of the fungi which we can see is actually its fruit. The body of the fungi is hidden either in soil or on wood.

> The mycelium (a web of hyphae) of a single fungus can be huge – a honey fungus found in America, which infects trees, was thought to be between 2,400 and 8,500 years old, and covered about 10 square kilometres of the forest.

> Not all fungi are mushrooms, they also include, slime molds, rust, yeasts and other types of organisms.

> There are approximately between 1.5 – 2 million types of fungi in the world but only around 4% have been properly identified.

> A single mushroom with expel approximately 16 billion spores.

> Some ants grow fungi for food in underground gardens.

> Fungi is one of the worlds great recyclers.
