Haiku - The Art of Japanese Poetry

About This Group

Haiku is one of the most difficult and beautiful forms of poetry. It is also a wonderful introduction into the world of writing. So whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been writing Haiku for many years, this group is for you.

Tanka is very similar to Haiku, but longer and more involved. When most people first learned about Tanka, they were taught to stay strictly within the 5/7/5/7/7 syllable parameters. Tanka translates as little song, ansd was meant to sing the praises of someone or tell a meaningful story.

~ All Haiku submitted MUST be in a 5 / 7 / / 5 format i.e. 5 syllables for the first line, 7 for the second and 5 for the third. Classic Haiku are about nature, but we as hosts would like to inspire you to think outside the box, and let your creativity flow!

Tanka may be submitted with any number of syllables as long as they follow the classic pattern 5/7/5/7/7. So if you feel 3/5/3/5/5, or 4/6/4/6/6. Please feel free to share!

We will also be accepting Senryu!
