The Challenge

The Big D

Death ~ The Other Side

Few want to talk about it, few want to think about it, yet we’re all intrigued, afraid, fascinated, riveted and let’s be honest ~ even entertained by the Big D. If not, there would be no comedies about Grim Reapers meeting in the waffle house, no movies set in the “waiting room” for the newly dead, no ghost stories period ~ would there?

This challenge is not about the physical! It’s about the PHILOSOPHICAL. What really lies beyond the veil, as they saying goes? Is the near death experience for real? Is there a Heaven? Is there a Hell? Do we Reincarnate? Are there really ghosts? Can we communicate with spirits who have gone Beyond?

The spectrum here is pretty broad so any artwork touching on these topics is acceptable. No blatant blood-and-gore though, please! This is Cutting Edge, not Zombie Central. Entries can be dark which befits the subject, but should be thought-provoking too. They can take their inspiration from religion, mythology, fiction, personal belief, personal experience or scientific theory. They can be as scary as Frankenstein or humorous ~ as in Dead Like Me (that’s where the reapers met in the waffle house), if that’s your thing.

This is a topic on our group list and it’s been a field of alternative research for centuries. So let’s brave a peek into the dark and see what we come up with!

All mediums are welcome. The emphasis will be on artwork (images) but shirt-designs will qualify provided they’re on theme.

Judging / Voting Criteria

Pick the ones that “speak” to you the best about this topic. You may vote for more than one.

No Soliciting of Votes! Any member caught padding the ballot box either via Facebook or Bubblemail, will have their work removed and also be deleted from the group. It may sound harsh but soliciting for votes is FRAUD, especially when monetary prizes are involved.

Rewards & Prizes

The winner will receive a $20 voucher from the Bubble, as well as a banner and be show-cased on our Group Home Page.

In the event of a tie for 1st Place, both winners will be honored in accord with Bubble policy.

Runners up also get a banner and a mention. If we have more than 25 entries this will be the Top 10. If less, we will recognize the Top 5.

Additional Information

Work must be accepted in the group to qualify! Be sure your work adheres to the focus of the challenge and the group; all entries deemed otherwise will be removed at the discretion of the hosts.

Thanks to Dwarkan for “The Last Metro,” our cover image. It’s not about a real subway train… it refers to the Egyptian Book of the Dead. The text reads, Anubis, Lord of the Necropoleis, will lead the deceased person through the underworld, down to Maat’s room where her heart will be weighed, in order to know whether her soul deserves the paradise. Illegitimate son of Osiris and his sister Nephtis, Anubis is portrayed with a black dog head (and not a jackal one as commonly believed) in reference to the savage dogs which scavaged the cemeteries.

Bone-chilling stuff!

{Hope it inspires some bone-chilling art} Opens today, March 9 ~ open for three weeks, voting for one.
