From the Heavens in Coi

I was hopeful I would be able to get some night milky way images on our trip to the Dolomites over images like this alpine church of Coi, Chiesa di Santa Fosca with views of Mount Civetta and Pelmo Mountain in the Zoldo valley, north of Venice. It didn't happen. The days we were in the area, the skies were cloudy, filled with wonderful clouds which helped make up for the loss of photos I was hopeful I would be able to take. The Church of Santa Fosca is a rather famous monument among the connoisseurs of the UNESCO Dolomites. It has an unusual shape located at the feet of Pelmo, Civetta and Cernera Mountains , this church is one of the best known and immortalized cultural destinations of the Province of Belluno. The structure is small and compact, with clear Gothic-Alpine influences . Frontally, the Church of Santa Fosca has a very particular pointed arch at the entrance, a rose window and two famous frescoes that show the figures of Santa Fosca and San Cristoforo . The bell tower is characterized by the onion shape and is completely covered with wooden tiles, as is the roof of the church. Internally, the church of Santa Fosca has a single nave and is richly decorated with hagiographic themed frescoes, sacred statues and an opulent wooden altar, attributed to the famous Andrea Brustolon . The Church of Santa Fosca is predominant in Val Fiorentina, it is the oldest religious center in the valley, even if the exact foundation date of the Church of Santa Fosca is not known. The church is mentioned for the first time in an official document from 1286.
