First in an unfinished series on rain. When I think of rain, fresh smells, playing in puddles, and, especially, birds come to mind. Rain must surely have been meant for birds as much as for anyone. Their after-the-rain songs and forages have always made me smile. These tiny little water droplets were frozen at the edge of a small leaf in my garden one frosty morning earlier this week. I couldn’t resist immortalising their little gathering… Canon Powershot A480 point and shoot, hand held, straight off camera. Proudly New Zealand-made. Featured in Rain Drops July 8, 2009.

The first of what I plan on doing is capturing the cliché even if I can do it just a little different in any way what-so-ever I will be happy. This one isn’t too different, but it’s also my first ever attempt. Only took 15 photos all up and it was just about setting the tap and dripping and capturing it – is there really any other way to do it? Done at night, inside, using flash. Absolutely NO manipulation after the photo was taken – absolutely no cropping at all! Full sized and that’s it! Olympus E-30 / Sigma 105mm Macro Lens /

Sunday morning, 28th June, saw the valley below our house filled with mist. It ebbed and flowed for an hour or so until the rising sun warmed it and it slowly dispersed. All the leaves and flowers were soaked from the saturated air, the suspended droplets reminding me of Lyn and Lisa’s amazing shots. Canon 1DMkII with Canon 28-70mm F2.8L lens at 68mm and Canon EF25 extension tube; ISO 200 f10 1/400, underexposed by 1⅓EV The image below is clickable /
