/ Armistice Day is the anniversary of the symbolic end of World War I on 11 November 1918. It commemorates the armistice signed between the Allies and Germany at Rethondes, France, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front, which took effect at eleven o’clock in the morning — the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month”. While this official date to mark the end of the war reflects the cease fire on the Western Front, hostilities continued in other regions, especially across the former Russian Empire and in parts of the old Ottoman Empire.
These After-Market Accessories are purchased by civilians to beef up the weaponry that is available to them when they are traversing the countryside or water in their relatively flimsy civilian vehicles. There are many variations: Attahk Rahk, Recon Rahk, Gas Rahk, Rocket Rahk etc. Most are Remotely Controlled from the Cabin of the Vehicle on which they are fixed until needed. wis oot a wee walk wi the wife an dugs this weekend when i stumbled oan this wee hoose..typical o a wee cottage where the inhabitants were kicked oot in the 18th&19th century after the highlands were cleared. The highlands were a recrutin ground tae give the british army cannon fodder for empire buildin…if the highlanders had been succesful in 1745 would there have beeen an empire?..nae highlanders means a shite army means nae empire as far as i can work out.the photy was inspired by this song.. highlanders fought and were promised land ..they came home tae burnin hooses / I WILL GO / Roddy MacMillan / Chorus : / I will go, I will go, / When the fighting is over / To the land o’ McLeod / That I left tae be a soldier. / I will go, I will go. / / When the King’s son came along / He called us a’ thegither, / Saying, ‘Brave Highland men, / Will ye fight for my father?’ / I will go, I will go. / / When we came back to the glen, / The winter was turning, / Our goods lay in the snow, / And our houses were burning. / I will go, I will go. / / I’ve a buckle on my belt / A sword in my scabbard / A red coat on my back / And a shilling in my pocket / I will go, I will go. / / When they put us all on board / The lasses were singing / But the tears came tae their eyes / When the bells started ringing / I will go, I will go. / / When we landed on the shore / And saw the foreign heather / We knew that some would fall / And would stay there for ever / I will go, I will go. / Footnote : The threat to disband some of the remaining Scottish Regiments in the ‘English’ army reminded me of this moving song by the late Roddy MacMillan which is now firmly entrenched in the Scottish Folk Tradition. So much so that many people think it is an old traditional song. An outstanding actor, Roddy MacMillan was also an excellent songwriter and playwright. He was from a Highland background and ‘I Will Go’ sums up the experience of many Scots who whilst risking life and limb in the service of England were being betrayed back home in Scotland as landowners pursued a policy of clearing the Glens of people to make way for sheep.
