Taken with a Canon 400D, Sigma 10-20 lens at 10mm, F11, shutter speed 1/13, 0.3 and 1/6 second, ISO100, processed in Photomatix and edited in Photoshop This shot was taken over Christmas this year when we visited relatives on Anglesey in Wales. To the left of the tree is my very patient girlfriend waiting for me to finish “messing” around! Beaumaris Castle, located in Beaumaris, Anglesey, Wales was built as part of King Edward I’s campaign to conquer the north of Wales. It was designed by James of St. George and was begun in 1295, but never completed. Beaumaris has been designated as a World Heritage site. Beaumaris castle was positioned to face Garth Celyn on the opposite shore of the Menai Strait and was intended, along with Conwy Castle and Caernarfon castle at either end of the Menai Strait, to overshadow the Welsh Royal home and centre of resistance to the English forces. Canon 450D / 18-200mm lens / 13 s / 20.0 f / 800 ISO / 110.0mm Focal length Conwy, constructed by the English monarch Edward I between 1283 and 1289 as one of the key fortresses in his ‘iron ring’ of castles to contain the Welsh, was built to prompt such a humbling reaction. / Thank you for viewing / Davitt.photography@hotmail.co.uk .

Pentre Ifan is the name of an ancient manor in the civil parish of Nevern, in North Pembrokeshire, West Wales. It contains the largest and best preserved neolithic dolmen in Wales. The dolmen dates from approximately 3,500 B.C. and was used as a communal burial. The existing stones form the portal and main chamber of the tomb, which would originally have been covered with a large stone mound about 36 m long. Some of the stones have been scattered, but at least seven are in their original position. The capstone is 5.1 m in length, and is estimated to weigh 16 tonnes. It is delicately supported by the narrow tips of three uprights. The facade surrounding the portal was built with carefully constructed dry stone walling. The dolmen is owned and maintained by Cadw, the Welsh Historic Monuments Agency. The site is well-kept and entrance is free. It is located about 6 km by road from Newport and 17 km from Cardigan.
