DBALehane DBALehane 62 posts

‘Star Twisters’ is a 250 word (or less) story challenge held each week on a given prompt provided. Each month all the weekly winners will go into a grand monthly final which all members will vote upon. The monthly winner will receive an amazon gift voucher to the value of US$10. Details of the monthly vote will be posted and bmailed to all members at the time. This week’s challenge will be the final chance to make the May final!

This weeks prompt, provided by last weeks Star Twister challenge champion DeliriousGirl is Trust Me which was inspired by this

A link to your story needs to be posted here in this thread by midnight Saturday 31 May (GMT).

A change to the voting system is taking place this week. Only those who have entered a story will be eligible to vote. And the voting will now require you to name your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices. Each 1st will be awarded 5 pts, 2nd will be awarded 3pts and 3rd will be awarded 1point. The story with the most points will be the winner. All entrants must vote. Failure to vote will disqualify that entrants story from the final scores. Entrants who comment on every story will receive a bonus point towards their final score.

The voting period for this week’s challenge begins from Midnight (GMT) Saturday 31 May to Midnight (GMT) Monday 2 June. The winner will be announced on Tuesday 3 June and the new Star Twister Challenge prompt will be announced on Wednesday 4 June..

Please bmail me DBA Lehane with your votes during the voting period (votes cast before and after will not count)

Remember stories must be no longer than 250 words, have a twist, and have the tag TTST3 for this weeks challenge. A link to your story MUST be posted in this thread.

The winning entry will become a featured story on the groups front page and you the writer will remain a group featured writer for the next month.

Thanks and good luck!

My entry: Trust Me

Word Count Note: my original word count was 250, without the title (as it is usually counted). RedBubble showed a count of 255, 3 words over after subtracting the title – I thought my program might have counted ‘bell-shaped’ as one word, so I trimmed a word elsewhere. My program showed 249 words – RedBubble showed 254, still two over. I manually counted, taking ‘bell-shaped’ as two words. My result? 249, the same as my program. Help!

I’m delighted to say that all the votes are now in for this week’s Trust Me Star Twister writing challenge. Happily everyone who entered voted so there were no stories disqualified.

This was the most open and varied vote so far. Certainly choosing 1st, 2nd and 3rd votes made it even more interesting. I can say now that had there just been a vote for 1 story then there would have been a tie for 1st place between 7 stories, who each received 2 first places each (that’s right, not one story got voted 1st more than twice)! This just shows how good the entries were across the board and how important the 2nd and 3rd place votes were for scoring important points.

Once all the points were added up, we had a joint tie for 1st place between:

DBA Lehane (yes me!) with Saviour and Zolton with Smile for Me, Baby

Both these stories scored 17 points each out of a maximum of 65 points (which again shows just how widespread the voting was).

However, rather than revert to the tie-break rules, as I am a group host I feel it only right that Zolton is judged to be the deserved winner of this week’s challenge and now goes forward to the grand monthly final.

Therefore the top 3 this week are:

1st: Zolton with Smile for Me, Baby (17 pts)
2nd: DBA Lehane with Saviour (17 pts)
3rd: Writer Anonymous with What Becomes of the Broken Hearted (16 pts)

So congratulations to Zolton! A new weekly Star Twister will be announced very soon and details of the vote for the first ever Monthly Grand Final will also be forthcoming very soon!

If any of the finalists would like to know how many points they scored, then please feel free to contact me.

All the best,

DBA Lehane.
