  • Taken at a street market in KwaZulu Natal

  • Shot near Point Hallswell, Wellington Harbour at dawn, the light was superb, I’d gone to shoot sunrise on the coast and the weather was nasty, came back into the harbour and got this light, sunrise is straight through those clouds, the effect is like soft Paua shell, what the image doesn’t is that if I turned the right it would have been soaked by sea spray in the wind. Shot on a Nikon D700, Nikkor 17-35mm Lens f2.8

  • For my chinese massive brap brap

  • portrait done in a workshop of a beautiful African maiden. When I took it home to work on it I fancied I saw into her past and saw some Zulu warriors with shields.

  • A young giraffe – Hluhluwe National Park. KwaZulu – Natal, South Africa. The park rangers had recently conducted a controlled burn and the vegetation was just starting to regenerate.

  • After watching the rugby the other day I decided to go into the South Africa file, and see if I missed anything decent from my trip in 2007. (Springbok fan by default, the wife was raqised in SA, and I prefer their style of play anyway). This was taken at dawn on the KZN coast between Margate and Ramsgate. Taken on my Nikon D80 with Sigma 10-20mm lens at 14mm, f29 ISO 100 for 30 seconds. I used Cokin filters. No idea which ones as I could never understand the P121 etc system – I used to hold them up to the sky and guess which was which. I’d dearly love to go back now I have a couple of years extra photography experience behind me.

  • At night the Zulu Warriors would gather around their campfire / and talk about their hunt and things that were important to the village. They would play their drums and it would echo into the distance of the night, quiet except for the sounds of animals.
