  • ... the youngest fairy of them all, seen only when the bees swarm and the crickets chirrup. / Apophysis 2.07

  • This was rendered in a large enough size for prints, but to my eye it came out looking “rough” ... though it smoothed out beautifully when I resized it smaller. So until I can get it looking better I am only offering this as a card. Rendered in Apophysis 2.07 Lauren Edit Thanks to Buddy Sears & his new Pixel Terminator I’m now able to put this up as a print. Thanks Buddy !!

  • Something a little minimal….. I love a minimalist abstract or fractal, there’s just something about them. And you just don’t see all that many minimalistic fractals. To me, fractals don’t always have to be a wild explosion of design and color, there’s a place for the subtle too. I love both ends of the spectrum,,, the fractals that shout & the fractals that whisper. As for this one, I tried to incorporate the negative space as part of the image itself, & not have it just hang there as a lifeless piece of the background. White can be even more unforgiving than black so I gave it a wash of color to soften it & bring it into the image even more. All critiques are more than welcome ! I’d definitely like to know how I can improve on this. You may have to look full screen to see the lines a little bit better, or maybe not. Depending on your screen, monitor & eyesight I guess ! ;-) Created with Apophysis. Lauren

  • Everybody needs a little alliteration, every now & then. ;oD I’m hoping to get this enlarged soon, so I can offer this for sale, until then I’m just going to put it in my portfolio, at least temporarily. All critiques are welcome, as always. Created with Apophysis 2.08.

  • Though more beige-y than gold… I was clueless for a title. For the curious…Lazysusan & Epispiral play & you would not believe how long it took for me to find the right gradient !! Created with Apophysis, and thanks for looking. ;-)

  • “A Dryad’s Daydream, Essence of Oak”. / by Helga Ross. Fall, a walk / in the woods, alone, / birds heard in the tall timber, / seen winging, a good feeling. / A drift of foliage / leaves limbs bare- / the wind blows a kiss / as if it knows I’m there. / Warmed by the cold breath / the sun sighs, / a tramp of the damp earth. / Squirrels scurry the furrows, / the crush of curled leaves. / Steps these same feet, hide n’ seek, / once scampered beneath / these same trees— / a frolicking kid’s fun runs / when we were fearless and young. / Among ground colours become / quilt covers my grandmother / might’ve patterned-a patch in which / I see me in sepia, / on umber my match, / her ochred old picture. / She existed, proof stored in a drawer; / still exists, because I recall. / Did I exist for these trees before? / Forthwith, familiar? / Do oaks growing old / hold trunks of memories? / Or, hardwood as hardware—tree-rings / careless, (unless I care) / except for life?—the only living things, / these, shared the same slice. / What does it mean that no one sees, / remembers this, but me? / What will it mean when I’m not here to see? / And because I care, spared, / when I won’t know these trees aren’t there? / . / © Helga Ross 2008

  • At first this looked like a person shouting his/her rage & triumph out to the heavens, but then I decided I was wrong, the colors were all wrong. Then, I thought it looked like a singer on stage, with that last trembling note hanging on the air…....so….. I chose opera. The term “bel canto” generally refers to an Italian vocal style of the the late 18th century, where use of a light tone in the higher registers and agile and flexible delivery were common in the operas of that period.
