  • The last image in my 12 part Zodiac series. / This image was created for and commissioned by Rhonda Thomassen Traditional / Sagittarius Traits Optimistic and freedom-loving / Jovial and good-humored / Honest and straightforward / Intellectual and philosophical On the dark side…. Blindly optimistic and careless / Irresponsible and superficial / Tactless and restless Sagittarians have a positive outlook on life, are full of enterprise, energy, versatility, adventurousness and eagerness to extend experience beyond the physically familiar. They enjoy travelling and exploration, the more so because their minds are constantly open to new dimensions of thought. They are basically ambitious and optimistic, and continue to be so even when their hopes are dashed. Their strongly idealistic natures can also suffer many disappointments without being affected. They are honorable, honest, trustworthy, truthful, generous and sincere, with a passion for justice. They are usually on the side of the underdog in society they will fight for any cause they believe to be just, and are prepared to be rebellious. They balance loyalty with independence. Sagittarians are usually modest and are often religious, with a strong sense of morality, though they tend to overemphasize the ethical codes they follow and worship beliefs about God rather than God Himself. This means that, negatively, they regard rigid, unloving, intolerant adherence to ritual and conventional codes as more important than the truths they symbolize or embody. They sometimes pay lip service to religions and political parties in which they have ceased to believe because the outward forms satisfy them, yet they may not hesitate to switch allegiance in politics or change their system of belief if they see personal advantage to themselves in doing so. They have both profound and widely ranging minds, equipped with foresight and good judgement, and they can be witty conversationalists. They love to initiate new projects (they make excellent researchers) and have an urge to understand conceptions that are new to them. they think rapidly, are intuitive and often original, but are better at adapting than inventing and are at their best when working with colleagues of other types of character that compliment their own. They are strong-willed and good at organizing, a combination that gives them the ability to bring any project they undertake to a successful conclusion. Their generosity can be balanced by their extreme care at handling their resources. Sagittarians are ardent, sincere and straightforward in love, normally conventional and in control of their sexual natures. Yet if thwarted, they may easily allow their failure to embitter their whole lives or they may revenge themselves upon the opposite sex by becoming cynically promiscuous. They are more apt then the average to make an uncongenial alliance. / If their marriages are successful, they will be faithful spouses and indulgent parents; but their innate restlessness will inspire them to use even the most satisfying ménage as a base from which to set out on their travels. They need to feel free and are often faced with the choice of allowing their careers to take over their lives at the expense of the love of their spouse and family. Sagittarian women are the counterparts of their men; even if they have no career to rival their love, they find it difficult to express affection and may run the risk of being thought frigid. In other personal relationships they are reliable, seldom betraying any trust given to them. They can, however, be impulsively angry and both male and female Sagittarians know how to be outspoken and exactly what expressions will hurt their adversaries most. On the other hand they are magnanimous in forgiving offenses and are responsible when looking after the elderly in the family. Their gifts fit Sagittarians for a number of widely differing professions. They are natural teachers and philosophers with a talent for expounding the moral principles and laws which seem to explain the universe. This gift enables them to be successful churchmen on the one hand and scientists on the other. The law and politics also suit them, as does public service, social administration, public relations and advertising. Travel and exploration naturally appeal to such restless souls and, if their opportunities are limited, they may find something of travel and change of scene in the armed forces or through working as a travelling salesman. Others may make fine musicians and, in the days before automobiles, they were said to be successful at horse trading and all activities, including sporting ones, concerning horses. This has been translated in modern terms into an interest in cars and aircraft – and again with emphasis on the sporting side racing, rallying etc. They are said to make good sports coaches, but their tastes in this direction may lead them into imprudent gambling, though the gambling instinct may be sublimated by carrying it out professionally as a bookmaker. The vices to which Sagittarians are prone are anger they tend to flare up over trifles; impatience – they want to rush every new project through immediately and demand too much of colleagues who cannot work at the pace they require; and scorn of the inadequacies of others while expecting fulsome recognition of their own efforts. They may in one sense deserve recognition, because in completing a major project they will sacrifice their health and family relationships; in their family’s eyes they may merit condemnation. They can be exacting, domineering and inconsiderate in the work place; and boastful, vulgar and extravagant in their private lives. Their restlessness, if excessive, can jeopardize more than their own stability. some Sagittarians risk becoming playboys, wasting their lives away in frivolous pursuits. Others can develop a moralizing, religious fanaticism or else turn into hypocrites, their inner prudishness disguised by an outward appearance of joviality. Another side of the religiosity which is a danger in Sagittarians is superstition.

  • Rollerball on copier paper. This is part of a series. Featured in THE SISTERHOOD. / Featured in Works on Paper. AIR SIGNS AND THE MIND Libra is an air sign. The territory of the air signs is the mind. Our mind consists of (1) our dual mind and (2) our neutral mind. Our dual mind consists of (1) our negative/protective mind and (2) our positive/expansive mind. The former warns us of negative outcomes and potential dangers. The later informs us of positive outcomes and rewarding potentialities. (see NMB #124 for more discussion of Libra and the 3 minds.) Our dualistic mind alternates between negative and positive. This function is needed to analyze, to discriminate and to evaluate information and alternatives. Without an arbitrator, however, our dualistic mind becomes confused and conflictual. When we get to the Libra stage of our evolution, we move above the horizon on our birth chart, where we enter the big wide world beyond our own personal reality. The Libra arena thrusts us into relationships. Interpersonal relationships are a central feature of our worldly endeavors. At our Libra stage of development, we realize how dysfunctional and conflicted our mind has become. We become aware of how our mental imbalances effect our relationships and our worldly success. We begin to realize how our mind is sabotaging us and out of control. We quest for an escape route out of our mental morass. THE DANCE OF POLARITIES AND THE SEARCH FOR STABILITY AND INNER PEACE The dance of the polarities and the variety of information that passes through our dualistic mind entertains Gemini (the first air sign). Libra (the second air sign) is very different. Libra desires stability and equanimity, not entertainment. The constant swing of the polarities bothers Libra, who desires to keep everything in balance. Libra likes harmony and peace. Libra tries to avoid conflict because it makes it feel uncomfortable. Everyone’s inner Libra searches for an alternative – (1) where we can escape mood swings and the battle ground of our rational mind, (2) where we can find an arbitrator and make wise choices, (3) where resolution is possible, and (4) where an experience of inner peace is available. VENUS AND LIBRA’S NATURE AND QUALITIES Libra is ruled by Venus. Venus is a benefic planet. Neither Venus nor Libra like to be confrontational or to be confronted. Libra’s polarity Mars/Aries gets charged up in confrontational encounters. Venus and Libra get deflated, confused and upset by any kind of conflict. The points below help us understand the nature and some of the qualities of Venus and Libra. (1) Like Venus, Libra likes to rest, to take things easy and doesn’t like hassle. (2) Libra is a thinking, reflecting being, who enjoys beauty, and developing ideas. (3) Libra likes creative and artistic pursuits, not hard or repetitive work. (4) Libra is idealistic and is prone to unrealistic expectations. (5) Libra likes perfection and doesn’t like flaws. (6) Libra is very sensitive and feels hurt by criticism or disapproval. (7) Libra tends to takes things too personally. Libra is interested in sharing, relating, cooperating, being fair, making life easier for itself and for others, and enjoys & fosters harmonious interactions. Libra’s energy is quiet, unobtrusive, calm, and content. Libra may appear this way on the outside, but inside Libra’s mind and emotions are not at peace. Libra, like all of us, must EARN this serene state of being. LIBRA ISSUES, CONFLICTS AND THEMES Next, we examine the nature of Libra’s existential dilemma and pain. (1) Although Libra wants and tries to please, it is usually trapped in some kind of interpersonal quandary. This is because it can’t be all things to all people and offensive to none. Our inner Libra needs to learn that we can’t please everyone all the time; and we don’t have to. Our inner Libra also needs to get in touch with, honor and learn how to meet our own needs. We need to exercise empathy toward ourselves before we can authentically express empathy for others. (2) Libra fears disharmony and wants everything to be perfect. Libra hopes to avoid the negative consequences of choices, so it remains indecisive and avoids making decisions or taking action. In an attempt to avoid feeling more uncomfortable, closing off options or alienating anyone, Libra circumvents taking responsibility. However, the reality of Earth school is that life is an experiment; and we learn through experience. We have to make choices, set our best intentions and hope for the best. We have to learn how (1) to make decisions, take action and to be responsible for the above, (2) to be at peace with our choices, and (3) to be detached from others’ choices, opinions and actions. In astrology, Leo is considered to be a “masculine”, positive (extrovert) sign. It is also considered a fire sign and is one of four fixed signs.[2] Leo is ruled by the Sun. Being the fifth sign of the zodiac, Leo has been associated with the astrological fifth house. Individuals born when the Sun was in this sign are considered Leo individuals. The Sun is in Leo roughly from July 23 to August 23. Under the sidereal zodiac, it is currently there roughly from August 10 to September 15. The Sanskrit name of Leo in Hindu astrology is Siṃha. / from Wikipedia. for more info follow Link

  • Fineliner on copier paper. This is part of a series. SCORPIO TRAITS AND THEMES As the Earth passes into fall and then winter, we make our descent into Pluto’s underworld represented by the Scorpio archetype and the eighth house or death, transformation and rebirth. When we enter Scorpio territory, we leave behind Libra’s quiet, calm equanimity and serenity. Scorpio (the second water sign) hangs out in the turbulent murky waters of the emotions and the unconscious. Scorpio is secretive, withdrawn and inward, and also a brave soul. Scorpio is vulnerable to doubts, depressive moods and obsessive-compulsive behaviors. At the low end, Scorpio is cynical, negative, devious, suspicious, deceitful, controlling and manipulative. At the high end, Scorpio is about psychological transformation, resurrection, enlightenment and immortality. Scorpios have depth, an uncanny instinctual awareness and psychic abilities. They can attune to the unconscious and intuitively pick up on things without knowing where the information came from. Scorpio takes life seriously. Nothing is frivolous. At some level, Scorpio knows that there is much accumulated karma to be resolved this life time and is committed to the clean up task. Scorpio knows that dedication and commitment are required to transform habits and to release imprints that have been with us for lifetimes. INTERNAL TRANSFORMATION When we are deep into the Scorpio leg of our journey, we are subjected to disruptive transitions and profound transformation. Scorpio territory is not a comfort zone. But if we are willing to be authentic, it is a power zone. In this arena we learn how to access and use our soul power that is embodied in our emotions. The transformative alchemy happens deep within us. It often transpires in the context of intimate relationships. In our Scorpio phase of development, our negative emotions are exposed. We are obliged to learn how to be in touch with the energy of fear, anger, rage, aggression and sadness. Our lesson is to embrace these primal emotional energies and to transmute them to their higher expressions. We are drawn to spiritual practices that involve Tantra or sacred sexuality and the activation of the Kundalini. SCORPIO’S HIDDEN TERRITORY Scorpio is a mysterious and individualistic sign. Scorpio symbolizes a hiding place, a cavity, or a hole where something precious is hidden. It represents a deep opening to the power center of the Earth and an access route to the psyche of the soul. Anatomically Scorpio is associated with the genitals and the anus. When properly activated and managed, the Scorpio archetype leads to the unfoldment of charismatic, mystical and psychic powers. Misuse of these powers, i.e. black magic, emotional and sexual abuse, and illegal activities can get us into deep trouble. The Scorpio impulse causes us to experience both inner and outer conflict, chaos and upheaval. This is not because it is inherently negative energy. It is because this energy churns within us, creating turmoil and upset until it is activated and consciously available to use for the evolutionary unfoldment of ourselves and others. When this power is denied or suppressed, it internalizes and externalizes in disruptive and destructive ways. It can manifest as vindictiveness, revengefulness and selfishness. Scorpio is motivated by its deep internal struggle to befriend and to creatively use this powerful energy of the soul. The strength of this energy gives us determination, tenacity and imponderable depth. These attributes reflect the fact that Scorpio is a fixed sign. Despite that fact that it is the main archetype of death and rebirth, it holds on and resists change. But its fixity also helps it consolidate, focus and fight until the battle is won. LIBERATING OUR SOUL POTENTIAL Scorpio represents the movement toward and liberation of the soul power concealed within us. Our emotional, mental and material attachments must give way to find soul consciousness. Our limited ego-self must die, so that our cosmic Self may be born. Scorpio reveals our divine potential and our capacity to expand beyond our limited perceptions of who we are conditioned to believe we are. When we realize that we are more than our appearance, thoughts and personality, we desire to find our essential nature and to experience the essence of our soul. As our understanding of and reaction to physical reality shifts, we begin to recognize the latent possibilities of our soul. We desire to experience more profound aspects of ourselves and to develop our hidden powers. The reorientation of our life toward spiritual goals brings with it many human challenges. As the nature of our quest shifts, our life intensifies. Necessary readjustments disturb the equilibrium in relationships, career, health and other life situations. Our new spiritual direction requires new alignments. Emotional conflicts arise. Psychological problems are exposed. Physical circumstances and relationships change. Conscious awakening can be scary, disturbing, revealing and profound. Taken from issue #140, October 2007, The New Millennium Being, Copyright 1999 – 2009 Guru Rattana, Ph.D.

  • Your element: Water / Your ruling planets: The Moon / Symbol: The Crab / Your stone: Moonstone / Life Pursuit: Constant reassurance and intimacy / Vibration: Moody / Cancer’s Secret Desire: To feel safe (emotionally, spiritually, romantically and financially)Cancer / The Sun is in Cancer between about 21st June and 22nd July. / Crabs hide in their shells for safety, and will wave their claws at an approaching threat, but get under their soft belly and they can be badly hurt. Cancerians are the same, but they’re as sensitive to the feelings of others as they are to their own, have creative imaginations, and they are devoted to home and family. If your Sun is in Cancer, you’ll take care of ageing parents, and fight for your children against all-comers. / To the outside world, the Cancer Rising person can sometimes seem moody; people can upset you without meaning to, but they are very glad to come and have a cup of coffee in your kitchen and pour out their troubles, knowing you’ll listen and understand. You are wary of giving your heart to someone, but you love to have someone on whom you can depend. ....

  • ...the twelth sign of the Zodiac’...Your element: Water / Your ruling planets: Neptune / Symbol: The Fish / Your stone: Bloodstone / Life Pursuit: To avoid feeling alone and instead feel connected to others and the world at large / Vibration: Erratic Energy levels / Pisces Secret Desire: To live their dreams and turn fantasies into realities.Pisces / The Sun is in Pisces between about 19th February and 20th March. / Fish swim in the wide ocean, and if your Sun is in Pisces, you love to lose yourself in the world of dreams and imagination. Super-sensitive yourself, you are tuned in to the needs of all around you, and your heart goes out to anyone in trouble. You’re a natural actor, but from a love of playing the part rather than a thirst for the limelight. Changeable and sometimes moody, you can be a sucker for a hard luck story, and you’re not only easily deceived but you can deceive yourself. You are more likely to sacrifice yourself for others than any other sign. / Poet, musician or artist, if you have Pisces as your Rising Sign you will need some sort of outlet for your creativity. People may find you enchantingly mysterious, and you can escape into a world of your own when things get tough. You gain insight through your hunches and intuition rather than logic, may even be psychic, and so long as you don’t drift aimlessly and let others take advantage of you, you might make a great contribution to helping or rescuing other people. / ..
