This is a rendering of a photograph that I took at Zion National Park of the Emerald pools. The short hike to the Emerald Pools leads to the end of a box canyon where a 200+ foot waterfalls dumps into the canyon feeding the Emerald Pools. This day the wind was blowing fast on the top of the canyon pushing the water away from its normal drop and dissipating the water. blayden.zenfolio.com / Original Fine Art Photography / © Blayden Thompson 2009. Original is an 11”x14” acrylic on Cresent #1 Illustration Board. This piece was inspired by memories of Zion National Park and the Virgin River. I took photos in the Park, but none of them were satisfactory as a reference for a picture, so I created this composite scene from memory.
What can I say…. I should probably move from NY to Canyon Land
A collection of photo’s taken around zion National Forest In Utah
When I hiked my way closer to the walls on the canyon, I was amazed at their texture! They looked like they were underwater. They are covered in rocky ripples, everywhere, on the floor, on the walls, vertically, horizontally and diagonally. It’s amazing. Zion Canyon Utah May 2009

Taking a tiny hike in the Zion there were a few people standing in the middle of the trail and looking at something on the side of the trail. I took my 400 out for these cute creatures running around. There were two of these lizards chasing each other. One had bright blue belly! Zion National Park, Utah May 2009 Canon 40D
