  • Orchid-ish
    by Buddy Sears

    US$3.42–US$91.20

I’ve always loved looking at decorative paintings. I never thought I’d paint one. I had been toying with the idea of mixing an abstract background with a semi-realist subject, and Orchid-ish was the result. This is my interpretation of a painting called Arrangement II by Mari Giddings, an artist who I greatly admire. I used oil on canvas and really took my time painting this one. Layer after layer went on, and I almost abandoned the whole idea as the abstract background began to come to life on its own. Fortunately, the original vision of the vase and orchid never left me, and I was able to complete it as planned.

  • Painted in my Byron Bay art gallery / studio. / This painting is one in my series on dance and movement. In this series I study, which lines and colors, within a persons movement, define the soul of a person, to find the answer I worked for several weeks with one model. / We did four photo-shoots, over 2500 photos, hours of organization, observation and dialog, one video-shoot and over a 100 sketches. This resulted into a series I call: The Narrative of Motion. The series contain powerful mysterious poses, It feels like the spirit is pushed out of the physical cage of the body.

  • The Jewel (Arsenal)
    by Ange

    US$6.27–US$167.20

Photographic based digital montage – Feb, 2008. Created over several hrs…2 nights this week (suffering from concussion) from an accidental fall over the wk’end. Photoshop montage combining digital shots of jewels, scanned samples of vintage style wallpaper and added drawn elements. Fifty layers retouched, blended, filtered, colour & tonal curve adjusted. I want to use the design as a furniture (upholstering) fine velvet/suede fabric for a small round bedroom foot stool. Nice to spend time on my own artwork. After work husband Dave & I pretty much spend all our spare time renovating our 123yr old vict. terrace…so a bump to the head stopping me in my tracks wasn’t such a bad thing after all.

  • Somewhere Zen
    by Buddy Sears

    US$3.42–US$91.20

I am such a hopeless romantic. I always wanted to paint something romantic. After I finished the painting “Orchid-ish”, I had this vision of these very sexy, pink orchids reaching out into the painting. For me, the painting isn’t as much about the orchid as it is about the stretching out to fill the space, the longing to connect with its surroundings. I find that very romantic, very endearing. This orchid was living in my home for a long time, so I guess I was very connected to it. I brought it in to the studio and sketched it out on the canvas. I went with my very first sketch and made sure I had nothing but classical music on when I painted it. It became one of those paintings that you feel sad when it’s finished because you just want to keep painting it. This one was a sheer delight for me.

  • Dreams in a Zen Garden
    by Buddy Sears

    US$3.42–US$91.20

At the risk of sounding like a flake, I just followed my heart on this one. It’s a large piece and dominates any room it’s in. That’s not normally what I strive for with my work; I personally like art that blends in nicely with its environment. This one IS the environment. The whole time I was painting it, I had the feeling I had seen it in a dream or something. It’s no wonder I still talk in my sleep. Anyway, I let go of all the rules I normally adhere to, and just let it move me around the different parts of the canvas. It was as close to sex as painting can get. (Artists will know what I mean by that.) I displayed it in a big show, but sort of hidden in a back corner. To my surprise, it stole the show. I realize I know very little about the things I think I understand completely. :) This is another oil on canvas.

  • Study Dream Love
    by Elena Ray

    US$3.71–US$98.80

Still life photograph of little flower and stacked stones set on an incense tray. Mixed media print on gouache stained and acrylic and Inkaid primed Japanese Kinwashi paper. Red ink stamped Chinese characters mean: Study, Dream, and Love. 11” x 17”. The original file was shot with a Lensbaby. The image was printed on Urara paper then scanned. That file was printed onto the altered Kinwashi substrate.

  • The Magnificent Stare
    by TerriRiver

    US$4.56–US$121.60

My new wolf friend seemed to like having his pictures taken – he stared “up close and personal” right into the lens. I believe it is only fitting to donate the proceeds of the sale of this image to a park that more than 200 wolves call home! :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Algonquin Park
