I saw this woman as i wandered through a Rwandan hospital. There, in the stark hospital room, she sat admiring this tiny creature with such love and gentleness. Her contentment of knowing that this tiny baby was hers. / I could not resist but to capture it.

This is a compilation I have done with Rebecca Zachariah after our trip to Rwanda. In a nation of shattered souls post genocide, hope remains in the form of new life. These people have witnessed death on massive scale. You can see how precious they consider life from this shot. ALL PROCEEDS TO HEAL AFRICA HEAL Africa calendar available now!!! These children were the more fortunate ones. They can go to school!!! They were proud of their uniforms despite being homemade and frayed. / This was taken in a village in Uganda where an australian aid organisation (International Support Aid) assist the orphans of Uganda.
I was looking at my photos today from my african trip and again I was take by this boy’s eyes. I know I have uploaded similar image before but I just felt compelled to upload this. / He is a rwandan boy. If only he understood what had happened in his land. The lost, the devestation, now the rebuilding. / I guess innocence is not such a bad thing.
Thank you for the interest in this pic. For those who’ve asked for a bigger version to purchase. Here it is!

What did this woman think, I wonder. Pondering about life perhaps…..
I was visiting one the dzong (Fortress) in Wandue Phrodang, Bhutan. This young monk came up and just look at us. When I lifted my camera, without much being said, He immediately posed for me. I thought, such confident boy. The result was amazing. Love this.
From a recent travel to Bhutan. This grandfather came from his village with his granddaughter on his back to attend a ceremony in the local buddhist temple. Bhutan is an interesting place where the traditional and modern worlds collide. This child looked at the camera suspiciously, as if to say what is out there in the world. The grandfather had a big smile as if to say, I am content.
This was one of my first few experiment with subjects as prior to this I was just taking picture of nature. I was leaving my place of work for good and I thought I give them something from me to decorate the wall (I work in maternity ward) thus birthed this picutre. / This was a picture of one of my midwife friend who just had her first daughter. She was only a few hours old. This was a new family.
Another photo for my african collection. This was taken at the Heal Africa hospital, where women are waiting for their life changing surgery. surgery to heal them, to heal them from their fistula, to heal them from the life that was otherwise confined to obscurity and pity. / In this hospital, these women are not only given a chance to heal from their injuries, but they are given hope, skill and a caring hand. So they wait, she waits…patiently. PS: Constructive comments requested thanks! Anything I can do to improve this picture?
I have to put this up. Could not resist it. This boy looked like he needed to go (you know what I mean!). But He was actually bending down intrigued by my camera.
This chinese woman was from a small minority group in southern province of China. She lived in the village that has not changed for more than 500 years. Her laugh lines (one of my friend called it road maps) bear witness to the years she lived, she herself does not know how old she is. To her, it does not matter.
Nice quite saturday morning with a nice hot strong coffee. A nice way to spend the weekend.
Facing life front on. / Her name is Lumo. She is in her early twenty, she suffers a condition called fistula. This renders her incontinent. Although, this condition is caused mostly due to difficult childbirth. A small number of women in congo has this condition due to severe assault inflicted to her by rebels. She was only twenty when it happened to her. She was engaged to be married but abandoned because of her illness. When I met her, She was waiting for surgery at heal africa…... for the sixth time. She is waiting and hoping may be the next one will heal her. She is a picture of courage. PS: She was film and featured by the goma film project that had won several awards (human rights watch – 2007 international film festival)
Her name is Mercy, She is 5 years old. She loves to learn and she loves people. She is a picture of hope for her country, Rwanda, recovering from the scar of genocide. For a better future…where everyone is the same.
Taken at Queen Victoria Building, Sydney
I purposely left this in its original colour to let it tell the story itself. The differences do not matter.
