Bright red male Cardinal sitting in my very iced over pecan tree. Turned into a digital painting. Taken the morning following the 2007 Oklahoma Ice Storm. /
Featured in Halloween and Inspired Art groups Acrylic on 9×12 canvas board- Inspired by the song ‘A Beautiful Lie’ by 30 Seconds to Mars. I was watching the music video for “A Beautiful Lie” by 30 Seconds to Mars, and was really touched by the intro with the Eskimos. (If you haven’t seen this, here’s the link! A Beautiful Lie Video ) The band is really breaking grounds by putting this environmental awareness stuff out there. (It can make or break your career in the music biz) I also thought that the director/photographer for the video was a genious! It’s such a captivating and stunning video, the shots of the scenery is amazing! So….I downloaded the CD. (It’s one of my faves right now….GREAT music!) Without the video to distract, I listened to the song with my eyes closed, as I knew this one would work for my next painting. (This is kinda part of my process right now. LOL) The little electric sounds at the beginning and end of the song made me feel like I was either falling into space or just into the dark oblivion. Empty, alone, fragile…..that’s where the background came from. IT’s a deep deep blue almost black – I added the parts that kind of spin out from the inner circle to show that things are spinning out of controll and that you’re spiraling down into the depths of something. Once I had the background done, I went back to listening to the song while the paint dried. This time, I saw that poor poor faerie was the one falling into nothing. This is when I decided to keep everything dark – whites blacks and grays – because I knew there would be an explosion of red. The white and gray leaves came next. I felt like the gray wasn’t the right color, but thought it might look better after adding the trunk and branches. So, I went with a solid black for that. I chose the black to keep with the dark theme, but also because it would really stand out in some parts, yet kind of fade into the background in other areas. (A Beautiful Lie – this is a beautiful tree, but is it really there?) This is when I hated it and wanted to trash it and start over! Instead, I stepped away from it for 2 days – came back refreshed and decided to add in the red & silver. I did the silver to throw in a brighter color to balance the piece a bit, but to also show the etherealness of the faerie. The faerie has fallen and was basically held by the tree. Shes fading into the background and there are spots of her silver body throughout the piece. She’s kind of becoming everything around her. I very much believe in reincarnation and life after death. (Which is also why the pose is almost like the crusifix.) It’s kind of a play on organized religion and what we’ve been told about death in general – It’s all a beautiful lie! :) The red was chosen to symbolize blood. This makes the viewer pose some questions – is it all blood? are those blood splatters or wings? are those blood spots or flowers in the tree? All in all, it’s a play on reality – what’s really there? what isn’t? Is it all just a beautiful lie?! “Lie awake in bed at night / And think about your life / Do you want to be different? / Try to let go of the truth / The battles of your youth / ‘Cause this is just a game It’s a beautiful lie / It’s a perfect denial / Such a beautiful lie to believe in / So beautiful, beautiful it makes me…” Full lyrics / A Beautiful Lie Video / 30 Seconds to Mars
Heading home today I just had to stop & photograph this beautiful scene. /
This one’s a little obscure outside Scandinavia. It’s a greeting for St. Lucia Day, which opens the Yuletide celebration in countries from the Netherlands to the Baltics. Traditionally, the eldest daughter of the family wakes early on December 13, dons a white dress with a red sash, and a wreath of lingonberry boughs and candles. She sings to wake the rest of the family, who then join her for a breakfast of buns and coffee. The candles refer to the fire which failed to consume Saint Lucy, and also offer a welcome glimpse of light in the middle of long, dark Scandinavian winters.
Yule / Winter Solstice Yule is the Celtic Festival of the birth of the sun. Winter Solstice is the shortest day and the longest night, but from this day forward the light will grow rather than diminish and the year turns once again towards the Waxing half of the year. In the darkest of nights there is still the silver star of hope and a promise of regeneration. The traditiona of bringing in the Holly,Ivy and Mistletoe at this time of the year is to symbolise that although the land looks cold and dead, life still persisits and the green of Spring and Summer will come again with the stregnthening of the Sun.
Celebrate a summer Christmas with me and this little bat! He seems to have made himself a nest in my Christmas tree…
What would happen if you melted Christmas ornaments and collected the molten drips on a sheet of glass? Something like this! Made in Gimp. I’m still learning how to use this program but I don’t really read directions because learning by experimenting is more fun.

The cold earth slept below; / Above the cold sky shone; / And all around, / With a chilling sound, / From caves of ice and fields of snow / The breath of night like death did flow / Beneath the sinking moon. The wintry hedge was black; / The green grass was not seen; / The birds did rest / On the bare thorn’s breast, / Whose roots, beside the pathway track, / Had bound their folds o’er many a crack / Which the frost had made between. Thine eyes glow’d in the glare / Of the moon’s dying light; / As a fen-fire’s beam / On a sluggish stream / Gleams dimly—so the moon shone there, / And it yellow’d the strings of thy tangled hair, / That shook in the wind of night. The moon made thy lips pale, belov{e}d; / The wind made thy bosom chill; / The night did shed / On thy dear head / Its frozen dew, and thou didst lie / Where the bitter breath of the naked sky / Might visit thee at will. This image i posted before adding colour, now it is finished and is shown as it should be seen. / In my research into the festival of yule i found that its the time when the Holly King who raigns for twelve days is defeated by the young Oak King of the year to come. And this is what lead to the twelve days of Christmas as they are seen today. This festival is a solar celebration as from now on the days get lighter and the dead ground of winter will soon begin to grow once more. / Whilst the branch’s of ever greens invite the fairy foke into the home for good luck, Here these are shown along the bottom arch, flanked by sage and rosemary. In addition i have chosen to show the winter sun in muted colours containging a seven pointer pentagram also linked to this festival

Acrylic on 9×12 canvas board- Inspired by the song “The Willow’s Lullaby” by Priscilla Hernandez. This piece was created while listening to Faerie Radio. (If you haven’t listened to this, you must! Faerie Radio The Soundtrack to the Magickal Realm ) This ongoing playlist is full of music that stirs the soul – there was something about the type of music that brought the color blue to the front of my mind. So, I layed down some Phthalo Blue as the background. Next came the bright green ‘leaves’, I needed something very vivid against that deep, spinning blue. Then came the tree trunk and branches, followed by the fade into a ‘watery’ area, and finally the darker ‘leaves’ were added. I sat back to get a good look at the painting, and knew that it needed some final touches. About this time, a beautiful Priscilla Hernandez song came on. The melody and sound of the instruments in this song helped to move my brush and add in the Faeries and thier ‘faerie dust’. I had clicked over to Faerie Radio to see what the name of the song was because I knew it would be my title. I saw that it was: “The Willow’s Lullaby” and thought to myself; “How perfect! It does look like a Willow Tree!”. The lyrics for this song are a bit darker than the sound of the song suggests. “When the willow sings half alive / it releases all the pain it hides inside / if you hear its song alone / You fall sleep and your soul is gone…” Is this what we see in our dreams beneath the Willow? Or are these Faeries here to take you once you have fallen asleep? Not all Faeries are kind…I do believe these could be a terrible beauty… The Willow’s Lullaby Lyrics / The Willow’s Lullaby Video / Priscilla Hernandez

The sun is in the south and the days lengthen fast, / And soon we’ll sing for the winter that is past, / Now we light the candles and rejoice as they burn, / and Dance the dance of the sun’s return. Yule Blessings to All!
This is the now compleated image for this years Witch’s Digest cover, and was fun to compleat, here a witch is gathering evergreens such as holly, ivy and yew to dress her home and altar, as i will be doing this year. I hope you all like it and i look forward as always to your feed back
The tree was cut and transferred from another picture and is made from construction paper. The outside scene in the window was made from contsruction. Everything else is hand drawn on my tablet pc with a stylus. The depth was created by the blending options tools in Photoshop. This house belongs to Mari and Berrie Holiday, yule/Christmas faeries in the magical realm of Hinterland. This is one of my favorite pictures because I learned the blending options tool to create drop shadows, and this is one of my favorite times of the year!
When Summers blue sky fades to grey / And swiftly ends the shortening day, / When coldness takes the flowers away / Ill dance the dance of winter! / Over hedges see me trip / To frost the leaf and haw and hip, / To petrify each sparkling drip / And dance the dance of winter. / Ill fade the roses red to white, / Redress the landscape in one night! / Make the cobwebs crisp and white / And herald in the winter. / I’ll tiptoe over lawns and trees / The water pipe I soon shall freeze, / Ill bring transport to its knees! / And turn all things to winter / In leafy Hollows, see me hide, / I herald in the Yule tide / Where man keeps snug by fires inside / While outside, I am winter. ~Lucy Burrow ~ Daz/PS7/Vue
The Yule log and a bit of the bubbly to ring in the new year. Cheers!
It’s that transitional time of year, when warm days fade into cool evening and colder dawns. The last leaves glow softly on tree branches, as the woods sink into their yearly sleep … waking only for the bright celebration of Yuletide and the sun’s Solstice return. This is a collage made of cut and layered paper with my own sketch of a tree scene that I saw in a waking dream. Enjoy.
