taken at the Yu gardens in Shanghai China Yuyuan Garden is a famous classical garden located in Anren Jie, Shanghai. The garden was finished in 1577 by a government officer of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) named Pan Yunduan. Yu in Chinese means pleasing and satisfying, and this garden was specially built for Pan’s parents as a place for them to enjoy a tranquil and happy time in their old age.
This is a merge of three photos taken from the lookout on the South Island, looking over the other two islands, on Koh Nang Yuan, Thailand. Koh Tao can be seen on the right side of the photo. The snorkelling is great in the bays between the islands and around Koh Tao, including big barracuda and reef sharks. Browse By Category / Underwater / Panoramas / Adelaide and South Australia
Verging on the over-exposed, this photo nonetheless shows the magic of Yu Yuan gardens in Shanghai. While there, I attempted (then soon later rejected) chicken feet, but I did quite enjoy the lovely dumplings, the Xiaolongbao, even if they were made from the ‘insides of a crad! Highly recommended.
The town of Yuan Yang is a small one in Yunnan province. It’s located above 1500mPD and usually covered by fog when we’re staying there. On that day, we missed our sunset shooting of farms due to severe rainstorm. We went back to the town for dinner. All out of luck, the weather’s just fine enough to take a long exposure shot. before the spicy dinner, i set my tripod and took this shot in the public square in the centre of the town just when the sun has just set.
This was taken last year at the Summer Palace in Beijng. /
Note the incredible smog. That means no emissions control. The Summer Palace is located on the western edge of Beijing, between the fourth and fifth ring roads, close to the western hills, 12km from central Beijing. It is not expensive to get there by taxi and does not take long. Use a map to tell the driver you want to be taken to the north gate if you want to follow our suggested route through the park, or ask your hotel receptionist to add ‘north gate’ to ‘Summer Palace’ written in chinese script on a piece of paper to show the taxi driver. As its name implies, the Summer Palace was used as a summer residence by China’s imperial rulers – as a retreat from the main imperial palace now known as the Palace Museum (or ‘Forbidden City’) – a pleasureground in the countryside, yet near to the city. The Summer Palace is virtually a museum of traditional Chinese gardening that uses rocks, plants, pavilions, ponds, cobble paths and other garden styles to create a poetic effect between different scenes. When you stroll around the Summer Palace, you will constantly find the area changing.

Went to Tiananmen Square with my boys ahead of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic so they could see all the preparations. We had a great day with some of the best weather Beijing has to offer. And there, under Mao’s watchful gaze was capitalism in it’s most basic form. There were several of these guys, digital camera and in the bag a small printer. For !0yuan (about $1.50) the many tourists could have their photo taken and walk away instantly with a print. Most Chinese who go for a wander on Tiananmen are not from Beijing. My boys and I posed with several people, the areas they come from don’t see too many foreigners.
