I love looking up at the ever-changing billboards in NYC. You can see a tree added to my composition here—but the Calvin Klein ad really took my breath away. This was taken back in 2004…and now I’m glad I made the moment last. :) Hey…this might make a cool Valentine’s card…or a LOVE ME – LOVE YOU kind of print for someone special. I might have to buy one myself. :)
A personal memory.
Here is another image taken today. To me, converse sneakers are the epitome of youth and they never seem to go out of fashion.. My parents wore them, I wore them and now my sons and daughter are already wearing them (by the way.. these were my pair of ‘connies’ which now my son is wearing). I just liked the way they portray youth and although each generation think they are better than the last; I think fundamentally they always stay the same.
This picture is inspired by a a neighbors teenage son. This is him leaping though a break in a wall. a break in the wall he created after 4 hours of hitting it. Where I live in the city many teenagers seem to have become feral. Living from moment to moment, some great anxiety and anger holds them all and they appear to be in a constant state of readiness for something? Combat or escape? I do not know, and I don’t think they do either. Why? I cannot be sure of that, but they are distressed, angry and deeply unhappy about what life brings them. This picture was made over a year ago, and since then he has been removed from his home buy social services. I have no idea if his life has improved, but I doubt it.
This is a photo of my Gram talking with my daughter. / This took place often, and I pray whatever Gram was saying to her, she’ll remember when she’s older. / Rest in Peace Gram….
P/S Retouched by Ange. Digital photos shot/styled by Alex Viscontini, 2008. Model: Roberta. Combined two shots (originals below lacked edge on their own) to create finished image. Retouched/airbrushed face/body, emphasised eyes, arched eyebrows, closed lips & enlarged them, minimised jawline, lengthened body/legs, re-worked hair/background elements, changed overall body perspective & added a magenta selective colour layer adjustment.
...now was that slip of the tongue from the yummy chips or from the sensual described paragraph he just read? Ha…taken in Central Park, NYC.
The Bastard Youth
I assure you we are quite safe from your friends here. It is pointless to resist. Everything that has transpired has done so according to my design. From here you will witness the destruction of the alliance and the end of you’re / insignificant rebellion.

I dreamt a dream! What can it mean? / And that I was a maiden Queen / Guarded by an Angel mild: / Witless woe was ne’er beguiled! And I wept both night and day, / And he wiped my tears away; / And I wept both day and night, / And hid from him my heart’s delight. So he took his wings, and fled; / Then the morn blushed rosy red. / I dried my tears, and armed my fears / With ten-thousand shields and spears. Soon my Angel came again; / I was armed, he came in vain; / For the time of youth was fled, / And grey hairs were on my head. Words by William Blake Acrylics, graphite and gold leaf / 100×42

This little boy was absolutely loving exploring the Colosseum, or so it appeared for the few seconds that I actually saw him. I couldn’t help but think of when I was younger, and wanted to explore all the ancient castles and structures of the world. I’d put good money that every little boy goes through that phase, and this lucky one was actually able to live it out.

Photo taken late afternoon as the sun was setting… hence the sunset shadows. Here’s my boy Kane doing what he loves most!! Skateboarding is almost an obsession for him. He skates at least 4 times a week either at the local school or at the local bowl with his Daddy (his Daddy is right back into Skateboarding after 15 years). At just 4 he can already push off and confidently ride a skateboard. And loves his Daddy to swing him from side to side standing on the deck inside the big skate bowls. / Quite Adorable. ◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘ Featured In Children Power of Raw Emotion Group / Featured in Colour Me A Rainbow Group / Featured in First Things Group / Featured in Outsiders Group / Featured in Family Unlimited Group FOURTH IN THE CHILDREN POWER OF RAW EMOTION CHALLENGE / .

The title of this abstract painting is a play on words…”Salad Days” in popular parlance refers to our youth, days of carefree life, romantic, joyous, free from responsibility…but the painting in it’s impression of a single lettuce leaf, is also a celebration of the joy of the coming season…salad days…. / I love the challenge of painting food as an abstract work…I used various types of watercolours, including the powdered metallics, to give me the effects I wanted to achieve…the veins of the leaf explode with vibrant reds and oranges, while the edges glitter with copper and gold…the feeling is of crackling heat and light….the vibrance and energy that comes only with youth in our “Salad Days“ / A Single Lettuce Leaf

model – MALLORY RUZ / photographer – LISA PREECE http://www.lisabellaphoto.com I also took the liberty of hoping something good came out of her hair, seeing as I do not know how to style hair haha. But it seemed to work well for these pics :) I must admit, I am somewhat proud of my hair creation on Mallory’s head. ha ha ha.
A sketch from the archives, painted today…provenance unknown, but perfect for the Empty Studio series, as it’s simple and understated... Sepia Inks on Industrial Paper. Behind the golden western hills / The sun goes down, a founder’d bark, / Only a mighty sadness fills / The silence of the dark. / O twilight sad with wistful eyes, / Restore in ruth again to me / The shadow of the peace that lies / Beyond the purple sea. / The sun of my great joy goes down, / Against the paling heights afar, / Gleams out like some glad angel’s crown, / A yellow evening star; / The glory from the western hills / Falls fading, spark on spark, / Only a mighty sadness fills / The spaces of the dark.
