I think this is a juvenile female cardinal, judging from the color of the bill and from her childlike curiosity, hanging around the feeder longer than usual and looking around with intense interest and not a whole lot of nervousness as is evident in more mature birds. A beautiful trusting little girl!

one I took today.
This is a photo I took from this past nesting season; a fledgling bluebird landed on a branch near my patio and was chirping merrily. Young bluebirds are speckled and big-eyed and very curious about the new world they’re discovering daily since leaving the nest. They love to frequent the birdbaths and just hang out with their siblings while Mom and Pops start nest number two or three of the season. They’re just learning to find their own food, so frequently they still look for handouts from their parents. It’s not uncommon to see a young bluebird with its beak opened in wide expectancy when Mom or Pops lands nearby.

2 young gemsbuck in the kalahari gemsbok park.i went black and white because of a very hard and dull day light.the pose struck me.
Little girl with a watering can full of summer flowers.
Taken at the Brookfiled Zoo, a mother and her youngster. They were playing and then just sat there together. Sometimes when I watch them they can look so human to me.
Any profits from the sale of this picture or tee shirt are dedicated to the the Australian wildlife relief fund, dating from the terrible fires in Victoria. The crow is perching on my large birdbath, peering in my window, demanding goodies from us, inside. / This guy spent the summer of 08 bothering the outside cats, chasing the squirrel around and around its own tree, trying to sneak up on the neighbor’s dogs when they slept, and generally caused riot and ruin in our quiet, country neighborhood. To the crow’s credit, it didn’t start this nonsense until its two children were fairly self-sufficient. / In September, just before the noisy crow rookery mob move south and our winter sets in, the mama of this pair made her two children take complete baths, one at a time, in our large birdbath, making sure each ducked its head all the way under, and that it rocked sideways on its belly in the water so its wing-pits were washed. Papa had to help with the second youngster, who did not want to duck its head. He had it fly down to him, talked with it quietly a minute, and then it went back and bathed properly. The next day the chidren, though still showing some baby-yellow at the corners of their beaks, left on the flight south with everybody else. Then it became too quiet, the squirrel collected nuts without being disturbed, and I missed the crows terribly. / CROWS ARE: / Country folk, devoted parents, mischief-makers, cat chasers, bread-snatchers, dogs’ eyelash pullers, and when you listen to them, you realize that crows actually sound like ducks. /

aka Teensy’s cousin over the pond! This is a Great Tit chick, which by pure fluke I saw hopping around the tree outside my window, waiting for mum to return with some goodies. Looks like he needs a bath. Bailey’s Birdie Bistro does provide bathing as well as restaurant facilities for our wild birds and squirrels.
Opie and Moonpie, registered AQHA and APHA (respectively) foals rest a bit after some horseplay.
I shot this youngster from a descrete distance. I wish I could have gone to chat a little with him but I don’t think he would have appreciated it. Maybe he was just fatigued. This was shot very early on a Sunday morning.

I meet this little doe along side the road one day and began tossing her bits of my Oats and Peanuts snack bar!!! She stayed and slowly came closer to my car!
This Flamingo youngster (I’m not sure what model it is) ;o) was harassing all the adults in the group. The adult here just happens to be a Caribbean Flamingo. WWT, Slimbridge, England.
