I often get questions as to how I retain my kitten pounce and flexibility, so I’ve decided to dictate to my human an instruction manual on how to become a Yoga Cat: 1. Check with your veterinarian before beginning any exercise program if you are not already an active cat. / 2. Find a safe and comfortable landing place. MY reclining chair works best for me – the human sometimes insists it’s her chair as she also seems to think my living quarters are also hers, I placate her on such occasions. She doesn’t know better. / 3. Find your favorite human. / 4. Get that human to find your favorite toy (or bring it to him/her if they are a particularly lazy human). My jingle bell ball, pictured in photo, makes me flip and flop in all sorts of ways. It’s my fav for this practice. For the humans reading this, you can equate it with those larger balls used in your Pilates classes and the like. / 5. Make sure your human has checked with their physician before engaging in an exercise program. Remember, some of them are particularly lazy, as noted above. / 6. Get your human to throw your toy up, down, over, and all around your space, remembering to include the comfy & safe landing place in this process. / 7. Remember to look as cute as possible, thus insuring human(s) enjoyment & laughter as well. This is particularly important as it serves to reinforce this behavior in the human(s). / 8. When you are ready, sit atop your chair, recliner, and PLOP down, attacking your toy, and flip flop around letting the toy know you’ve got it. / 9. At some point, it is likely that you too will be upside down and will have then mastered this particular Yoga Cat pose. / 10. Hope that your human isn’t armed with a camera in order to prevent potential photos such as my current one from being posted on any web page. / 11. Lastly, should you be caught on film in an upside down position, deny the practice of Cat Yoga and meow loudly telling everyone you’re mooning them. Love, laughs, and wishes for a purr-ific day! Painted in my Byron Bay art gallery / studio. / This painting is one in my series on dance and movement. In this series I study, which lines and colors, within a persons movement, define the soul of a person, to find the answer I worked for several weeks with one model. / We did four photo-shoots, over 2500 photos, hours of organization, observation and dialog, one video-shoot and over a 100 sketches. This resulted into a series I call: The Narrative of Motion. The series contain powerful mysterious poses, It feels like the spirit is pushed out of the physical cage of the body.
