Those who are members of the Former DPF Group will be saddened to hear that our friend YellowJacket (Paul) passed away early morning 9th October USA time. His wife Merlyne has requsted that I pass this news on to his ‘online family’. While we know he is now free of pain and with his Maker, as humans we will miss him and his wonderful sense of humour, his courage, and his encouragement. He touched so many lives. I admire him so much for rising above his disabilities and looking for ways to still make a difference. Till recently he was out photographing animals in the local shelter in order to maximise their opportunity of finding a home. I have expressed our love and support to his wife Merlyne, and said I would pass on any comments from his ‘online family’ in about a week’s time. So please feel free to add any expressions of sympathy and support to this Journal which you would like passed on to Paul’s family. I know Merlyne would also appreciate your prayers – she speaks of her unpreparedness to be alone. We celebrate Paul’s photography and life in the Former DPF Group overview with Features of his work, and Paul as our Featured Artist.

Our friend “YellowJacket” (Paul) passed away recently … his wife Merlyne wished to convey thanks to the Redbubble family, as follows: Dear Red Bubble friends, Everyone has been so very compassionate with your words of concern. Please accept a big THANK YOU from my heart. I still find it hard to believe that people in such large numbers from all around the world take time from their busy lives and respond to an announcement first that my Paul was not expected to live and then again at the announcement of his death. When my Paul first ask me to e-mail a web site to let the people know he was ill and would not be adding additional pictures, I said yes. I did not get to the task for a day or two and almost forgot. In fact I almost didn’t send that e-mail. But something spoke to me late one night after my Paul went into the coma and the doctors again stated that death was only hours away. From deep inside a voice was saying I had a promise to keep. I wondered why it was so important to let one or two people know on this certain web site that my Paul would no longer send them pictures. But i put his computer on my lap, opened it up and the first thing that popped up was “Red Bubble”. Though tears, I sent the message. The response was almost immediate and continued as the news spread around the world. As part of my eulogy for Paul, I did read some of those responses for those gathered at his memorial service. They too were most amazed. Not so much that Pastor Paul, as many knew him, had a way about him to make friends but by the sheer numbers of those friends from around the world who had never met him face to face but were still willing to respond with such compassion. In closing I ask one small favor from each and every one of you wonderful people, however. Please continue to be “YOU”! Continue to make friends of all. Continue to make friends though your art form. And continue to enjoy your passion of photography for as long as you are able. I am sure if your Yellow Jacket would be here today, he would be asking you for that same small favor. While that is not possible, I will ask for him, It is such a small favor to ask and one that all you wonderful people are so good at – continue to be “YOU”! THANK YOU again and again and again for your compassion expressed to me and your wonderful words for my Paul, your Yellow Jacket. Most likely, he is still viewing and enjoying all your pictures!!! May the blessing of our Lord Jesus be with you always, / Merlyne

Fantastic news today- my picture ‘Its Sad – So Sad’ was placed second in the ‘Compact’ Groups – Yellow Challenge-apart from the fact I had forgotten about this challenge- this particular shot didn’t really take off at the start- I had faith in it and it has paid off- thanks so much to all who voted for it I am REALLY Happy!!!
