I have arisen all phoenix-like from a few months of despair. The relief is something I am continuously aware of… a sweet loose strength in my limbs. It does not hurt to breathe, to move. / “Bliss can be only a cessation of pain.”Me. / I would write more but must needs run around and around making beautiful things. Thank you all with the fullness that my heart, exquisitely light for this moment, affords me. The words of your support have meant worlds to me… / Here, I finally nailed this for a newspaper article a small paper is doing on my show. I thought I would share it. Love to all Paul. ARTIST’S STATEMENT – I find the elitism in the art world obscene and utterly misguided. / I want to MOVE OTHER HUMAN HEARTS with my work, and this is my ultimate goal, in everything I do and make. This includes all of humanity. / We are born with the same passions, demons, love and wonder. There is tragedy in everyone’s existence, as there is, I hope, joy. / If I can reach that common truth in another I have succeeded in a rare gift and blessing in this life. If I am lucky enough to witness this it gives me more than I can possibly convey, and at times leaves me with tears standing in my own eyes. / No matter our beliefs as individuals, we are certain only perhaps of the time that we pass through, and of the inevitability of this time ending. I am not religious, so within the limitations of my own view there is no more than this. / Our lives are, to me, not lessened in value by these convictions being some of the only absolutes that I have. In an unqualified sense, this life – each week day hour minute second is in actuality made infinitely more precious by this knowledge. It must mean more to us, because this is all that we have. / It means also that the responsibility for living well, for living to the hilt with everything within us lies with us, in our hearts and minds. With our love, our strength, the veracity and purity of our actions. Our choices, and fundamentally our kindness. / That this can be purely, wildly, essentially beautiful is at the core of my work. / In some ways, this is also a bleak way of looking at the world. Because to me, these moments must end. They must. / Almost every one of my pieces has a kind of fierce attempt at beauty, and it has an undercurrent, a swelling, of sorrow. Because life is beautiful. / And because life is also sad. Paul D Robertson / 0417 977 048 / pauldrobertson@hotmail.com / www.pauldrobertson.com

A little experiment with selective colouring. Don’t know why, just thought the lifebuoy was ugly so decided to make it stand out :) / Possibly the first time I’ve tried selective colouring….if you can’t find any others in my works, then yes it is. I’m too lazy to check and if it ISN’T my first, then I can’t remember it which means it still counts as an experiment :] Featured In: / The Scavenger Hunt / Unconventional Artistry / 1620

I called in to grab my mail at the Post Office today and they handed me a flat box. I didn’t remember ordering anything and I couldn’t see a return address. I mentioned to the man at the PO that I didn’t have a clue what it was. He gave me one of those knowing smiles and I realised with horror that he probably thought I’d ordered some porn or something and was trying to act innocent. I walked out of there with a very red face and was mortified LOL!! When I got into my car I couldn’t help myself and opened the box. / Inside was my very first Book Cover Yay!!!!! I had this big grin from ear to ear then had a thought. I walked back into the Post Office, went up to the man with the knowing smile, held my book up and said. “Well I know what it is now!!” / He looked at the book and looked back at me and said / “Great” in dull tones. / I leaned over and said “Yep, and that’s my Artwork on the cover, my very first Book Cover!!” / Then the three staff that worked there all came over and started congratulating me LOL including the man with the knowing smile and told me how awesome it looked. / I felt so much better that they knew it wasn’t porn!! :)) / And just a little bit proud :) / So…......just wanted to share my Book Cover / They only used half the original image but I don’t mind…. / I’m a little bit excited!!! :)) / Not one to miss out, Ash decided to jump on the table as I was shooting, the mannequin wasn’t having all the limelight… / (Excuse the blur, I was laughing at Ash)

It’s been a great week for me in the creative world, a wonderful antidote for some of the stuff happening in other parts of my world…...... / I would like to share some good news with you…... the annual Busselton Through My Lens Photo Competition has just been finalized for the year. It’s a great comp that draws in many people of all ages and both professional and amateur. This year saw over 200 entries go in, with many being displayed in the three main shopping centres for several weeks in October. In the past, I have done well in the Professional Digital Art section, and although I had been under pressure this year with my exhibition, and therefore “rushed” my entries at the last minute, I still hoped I would do okay (plus the cash prizes are really really attractive and what can I say – you know what we struggling artists are like!!). I am blown away!! I won the Digital Art Professional section, AND just when I thought the excitement was too much (and was spilling my wine because I forgot you don’t clap hands while holding a loaded glass – sheesh! LOL) I received the first prize in the Professional photography section (something I thought I could only ASPIRE to especially as I never enter the professional section, except this year the judges shifted my work into the pro class without telling me) with my image of David Dann of the Noyt Kobori Spirit Dancers. I want to thank David for giving me permission to exhibit his portrait, it took a bit of time and a lot of “serendipity” to find David after him being an anonymous face in my photo for so long, and just add that it is really interesting to note – I shared my recent exhibition with well known aboriginal artist Troy Bennell, and have only since realized that when photographing the Noyt Kobori Spirit Dancers, this is actually Troy’s group and he was in many of my images playing the didgeridoo. Between us, we have come up with several ideas and I now look forward to doing more work with the guys and hope to capture a little more of their culture and “magic” for the future. Which to my mind, is as much an honour and a “win” as those mentioned above!
