A smiley, or happy face (☺/☻), is a stylized representation of a smiling human face, commonly represented as a yellow circle (or sphere) with two dots representing eyes and a half circle representing the mouth. “Smiley” is also sometimes used as a generic term for any emoticon. / Many typographical representations of smiley faces have been developed over the years. Some feature non-smiling expressions or other elaborations. They come in two main varieties, those meant to be viewed sideways, and those meant to be seen upright. :-) classic smile with nose A type is a category of being Typing is the process of inputting text into a device, such as a typewriter, cell phone, computer, or a calculator, by pressing keys on a keyboard. I stood in the snow behind the tripod, so quietly that one bird landed on my lens! What joy. I couldn’t actually say we bonded, but I was thrilled. I’ve had birds land on my hat, but never one that I could see so closely. Featured in Alaska ~ Beyond Your Dreams – Thank you! Shot in RAW. Slight curves adjustment, at the suggestion of Eivor. The snowfall made it necessary to bump up the ISO to 320. I tried ISO 640 at one point, but those looked a tad grainy. This is a male Common Redpoll in today’s snowfall. Note snowflake on his back. Our area has so far eluded Mt. Redoubt’s harsh volcanic particles, although Alaska Airlines and FedEx had to suspend all flights in and out yesterday. The sunlight through the petals and leaves looked lovely against the backdrop of the snow outside. Our short days make sunshine seem all the more precious, even indoors. Winner of Tulips in Vases challenge (I know – how many people have those photos or flowers hanging around, ready to pop into a challenge, eh?) Actually, I’m truly appreciative. And nice of someone to post it on the homepage, too. Pacific Northwest Art featured May 30, 2009 – Thank you! # Featured in Alaska ~ Beyond Your Dreams – Thank you! Geese returning to Alaska, framed against the Kenai mountain range across Cook Inlet. Signs and sounds of spring near our house, despite ice chunks in the inlet. Nikon D200 and a Nikkor 18-200mm at f/11 and 1/250 sec, -.3ev, using a circular polarizing filter. IS0 200. Converted from RAW to jpeg using Capture NX2. Light curve and slight crop. Sun sets about 9:45 p.m. these days, and we’re gaining light quickly. Featured in DSLR Users Only – 3 A Day – Thank you. That’s very encouraging! Whoopee! Sold a mounted print! Thank you! This is a new version of this work fitting it into RB card format. I did this in Photoshop Elements. It’s a better card now… maybe it’ll train others to look for the “fickle hand of their fate” in the surrounding landscape. ; – )) A few years back while climbing around the rocks of the Dragoon Mountains in southeastern Arizona I looked up at a monolith rock face and saw what looked like a giant hand. I quickly got out my sketch book and pen, found a perch, and began to draw. / At one point I needed to shift, so grasped my book with my left hand, my thumb pinching down firmly so not to drop the book. Once settled I realized my thumb had pressed into the illustrator marker color and left a perfect thumb print. I laughed at the detail of such an art signature, added my name over top, and finished the sketch. / The name came to me in the same fit of humor… liking the juxtaposition of God’s hand and a double meaning for the word “Bluff”. I drew this in my 5.5”x8.5” Canson sketch book while in the field. This new presentation has been part of an experiment to update all my original RB uploads into RB card format. Late long hours have been involved… but hey, I’m retired from the work-a-day world… so I can join the work-a-night-crawler world! ; – ))))
It’s how I imagine this cow would speak its greeting. I have reloaded this image after reformatting it for RB cards in Photoshop. I can imagine it being a card sent to someone in giving them a silly reply to some long drawn out message and unanswerable question they’ve asked you… like “do you really think it’s okay if I shave all the hair off my head?” / The pictorial message on this card I’ve found to be a perfect reply to inanity! ; – ))) A quick pen and ink sketch drawn originally in my Canson sketch book. / I’m experimentally looking at all my earlier downloads to RB and making format adjustments and new silly descriptions to see if they garner any more or better comments… or even a sale… no, no NOT that! / I’m burning more of my midnight oil doing these revisions and getting surlier by the night!
It’s a B&S thing…

This work started out as a pen and ink sketch I did on a 5” x 8” plain index card some years ago. The back ground was filled in with clouds in illustrator markers. Over the years the work yellowed, the markers faded and discolored, but the original sketch still had some nice qualities to it. I moved it into Photoshop (PS) and the tawdry aspects just jumped out further. So after making adjustments for RB card format, like creating a colored torn edge, I experimented with some ‘filter’ choices. ‘Solarization’ really popped this image. It turned the century plant black with darker lines yet, but really converted the background into a feast of color. I re-painted the plant highlights with white, re-outlined for emphasis with black lines and made minor background color adjustments. I’m not a whiz at PS yet, but I like what I figured out to do with this old sketch. / I didn’t keep track of how long it took me or how late the hour… but I did this a few nights back and I’m just rested up now to submit it! ; – ))))))))))))) It’d be a decent card for the concept of making current improvements or changes (in this new century) to have a ‘brighter’ outlook for the future!
