Somewhere inside a Brooklyn Subway I saw a mosaic wall and focused stricktly on a portion of the wall. I loved the hands and the writing instrument. I thought it would inspire someone to WRITE.

Chinese Brush Painting-The Inn of Happiness.. Ink and Watercolour on Rice Paper. “The Inn of Happiness” [my title] is the very first Chinese style painting I ever did, and for practice I based it on a very ancient Chinese landscape painting… / I decided I loved this style of painting and went on to compose my own imaginary scenes with a distinctive oriental flavour. / After doing just a few pieces, I had to give it up in order to concentrate on my main body of work. / This year when I found that RedBubble was the perfect arena for me to indulge in any style of painting my heart desired, I happily returned to it…. I am including “The Inn of Happiness” here as an example of adding colour to an ink painting, in illustration of the articles I have written on the subject so far…Janis Why question the fate of the dew? / The morning sun burns dew, and drowns in clouds. The holy mountain is not a palace / But an inn. / Once you, innkeeper, / Drive out desire, ignorance, hate, / What remains? Enlightenment? Affliction? Dew is your model: nothing at all. Han Shan /

Sometimes the muse just wants to play with you. You should always let her. Otherwise she gets cranky; and that ain’t pretty.
This is a very old Underwood typewriter I captured at Bonazzaville a tourist attraction in our town. Ahh “The Good Old Days” No crashes, just sticky keys! When most people think “old typewriter,” they picture something much like the Underwood No. 5. Why? Because this is the most successful typewriter design in history. Appearing shortly before 1900, the Underwood established the stereotype of a typewriter until the introduction of the IBM Selectric in 1961. When the Underwood was first introduced, it was only one of hundreds of competing and extremely varied typewriter designs. But by 1920, almost every typewriter imitated the Underwood. Processed as a HDR it would make a beautiful card or picture to hang on any wall. Photographer / Robert Berry / Nikon D80 18-135mm Nikkor Lense /

/ “Looking For Cornelius And Not Finding Him” is part of the Winter Collection...more than meets the eye… / In my painting and accompanying writing, “Looking for Cornelius”, there are three significant levels of interpretation..on one level it’s a metaphor for the challenges we face in life and how we struggle to overcome them…secondly it is a tribute to the genre of Chinese poetry, and thirdly it is literally looking for a way to the great Canadian artist Krieghoff, and not having made it to end of the journey…but along the way happiness is found, and the necessity for the journey is now gone…Janis Watercolour on Canvas… In looking for Cornelius, I climbed many mountains, wore out my shoes, tore my arms in pain, wept in misery…he was not there…then I stopped to rest beneath the trees…the quiet beauty of winter surrounded me…my cares slipped away ... Anne Frank-The Diary Of A Young Girl, page 252. / ‘Sunday afternoon Peter came to see me at four-thirty, at my invitation. At five-fifteen we went to the front attic, where we stayed until six. There was a beautiful Mozart concert on the radio from six to seven-fifteen; I especially enjoyed the Kleine Nachtmusik. I can hardly bear to listen in the kitchen, since beautiful music stirs me to the very depths of my soul’. Her wings are made from the musical notes of the Kleine Nachtmusik. /
Polaroid transfer scanned plus type. / A Very Big Thank You to my friend PJ Ryan for allowing me to use one of her poems to go with this Polaroid transfer. My Wonders You look up at me with a toothpaste grin / and I’m wondering / how I ever created something / as perfect as you / with big brown bear eyes / that twinkle / like lights in a winter window. Would it matter if I wanted to hold you for an hour / and not let go / would that be too much? / You run past me / dancing and swirly curls / and i wonder / why I ever deserved / to have someone as gorgeous as you / in my world I wonder / if I ever met you / my heart would still never forget you / because you’re a yearning in my soul. So I hold your hands / and chase you / around the clothesline / along the pavement / across the memories we’ve made / whilst my heart opens up a little bit more / and holds you in it’s smile. White sands and snowflakes floated about the rust-colored fog as Mr. Kimberly traveled with freckled feet across loose boards and headed toward a thin blank spot on the horizon. Kimberly reached with sweating, shaking hands for a flagpole that wasn’t really there. / “I was meant to be king,” He shouted at slivers of shadow and clouds of unknown closed eyes that studded a brick wall. He fell. And in falling, his dreams became reality. As soon as he stopped trying to breath he was able to feel the curtains of doom raise like a theater’s opening night. / As his body molded onto weathered wood moorings, he felt for a hand to grasp with his own hand, with his own heart, with his own brain that fizzled like frying eggs on a platter. He reach farther and farther. It felt empty. Yet he knew intuitively that there was something there. Something strong inside the void. And then he felt it. The emptiness that was as full as a lover’s arms, as full as a mother’s eyes, as full as a friend’s laughter. / Kimberly held on. Tight. Not for dear life. For it was too late for that. He held on to eternity. And it held him back. Dark Shoreline is acrylic, India ink and gesso on paper / 15”x22”

one of my latest paintings inspired by a poem by ricardo blancas: / Your Favorite Color I am a pacifist / who has never ran away / from a fight. / Over the years I’ve given / and received different colored / black eyes. the color of love. / the color of hate. / the color of rage. / the color of faith. I lay awake at night, / consumed by thought; / my mind is in constant search / of answers to questions / yet to be asked. As I look out the window, / I tend to find you’re face, / in constellations / that have no place in time or space. Condemned to live life / in a series of fairytale / like day dreams, / for ever I’ll be a perpetual slave / to the rules of man. / Drowning my sorrows / in a series of silent screams / that only those who’ve / suffered as I’ve suffered / can hear. Frustration and happiness / go hand and hand. / As there is nothing more / frustrating than chasing happiness / in the middle of the night. Nothing sadder than / waking up each morning / to find that I once again / fell short of a dream. / Hopes tends to fade away like / cigarette smoke in the wind. / / the original painting is 16×20 inches acrylic and oil on masonite and is available as the original from contact with artist… / for all occasions, fineart products can be found here at redbubble and also at my zazzle fineart gallery below, if you like please visit
