  • This is done in the Chinese Wrinkle style. Everything is in watercolor, the only editing I did was to crop it. / Technique inspired by Qu Lei Lei,wrinkling or crinkling is used to provide texture. Crushed paper is used after balling it up and flattening it. / Creases are made and then gently run a brush over the high points. The majority of these disappear when mounted. Ink Blotting is also done with this method. This is 12’‘by18’’ And it is for my Grandson who collects Dragon

  • This photo is the one ive been looking for .. well since i guess i began my photography, I feel so glad to have captured it with family – this is my Dad holding my Niece Georgias hand.. For me there is nothing quite like a story told in the detail of black and white – spanning generations from young to old..

  • I couldn’t think of an apt title for this one… / Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, Kandy, Sri Lanka. / YES I remembered the location. So nice to get so close to these wonderful creatures – yes, they were technically captive, but notice that it’s an orphanage- set up to raise orphaned baby elephants. Many are released into the wild, some are kept on I think as part of a breeding program in order to ensure to keep up Asia’s dwindling elephant population – an extremely important job. Despite strongly enforced laws on elephant shooting, it still happens. However, here it is important to look at both sides of that… herds of elephants wander the plains, often perfectly harmless. But if they come across a village and find there’s food around, then they could destroy fences, releasing livestock, damage houses… destroy people’s livelihoods, crops, food supplies… so what can a villager do but shoot them? It’s a war for survival. On both sides. / This one meanwhile was raised far away from that, and we got to see the all being taken to the river for a bath. A lot of elephants. And even with my small lenses I could get close enough to take closeups like this… A fantastic experience. Still, I expect the guy next to me with the foot long lens had it even better…

  • After seeing the original Labouring Hand photo, my good friend Squelia suggested that I try adding a Dragan effect to the image, which would emphasize all the wrinkles and textures of my father-in-law’s hand. Celia also kindly provided the link to this tutorial . I did try, and this is the result. Cool effect! However, I decided to elaborate a little on the concept of old age, combining a black and white, inverted version of Arthritis 2 to demonstrate one of the painful difficulties of getting older. For you Celia, and thank you for suggestion! Finished in 4th position of Top Ten* in the Top 20 challenge of the Images and Ideas group on April 11, 2009 Original shot /
