Wolf drawn with colored pencil
A Baying Wolf, is a sad and haunting sound you dont hear anymore, to me it seems as though they knew long ago it would come to this pass, hence their howling started. A rare sound indeed. / Wolves are an endangered species and have been hunted for centuries and nearly extinct, hopefull through careful conservation these beautiful beasts will be around forever and everyone can hear their special song. A pastel picture, I try to do art with heART. On the rise her head lifts / The breeze takes the howl adrift / As she cries, for the life of her pack. / The mournful sound of loss and grief / Is carried upon rustling leaves. / For what is done, is done / And there’s no going back. For a moment, in the Golden haze / She sees me from where I stand / And from the depths of my heart I feel her pain. / With pride she holds my gaze. / Her Forgotten song goes unheard to some. / But I hear her all the same. I close my eyes. / Her words are soft and wise. / One single tear adorns my cheek, / As she finds the words she wants to speak, / She tells me the story of the Forgotten Song. With that, she appears before me / No longer is she upon the hill I see. / I reach down to touch her, / She is not real / But I feel the warmth and life in her fur. She allowed me this moment of insight / Before she fled back to the night. / And suddenly, / Under my fingers was no longer the softness of her fur / But just the gentle spirit of her / And of the Forgotten Song. / For what is done, is done. Many thanks to Laura for this beautifully written poem

Excerpt from an essay I wrote about my work. I think this is the first time I’m really getting into detail publicly about the symbolism of my work. ”...The original assignment was to draw something new every day for three weeks on this piece, something inspired by your day, and to add another piece of paper each week. I interpreted the things going on around me and illustrated a piece on Patriarchy. Starting from left to right, the viewer can identify a familiar character from western folklore, little red ridding hood. Earlier this year I had done an artist book on little red ridding hood, the hunter and the wolf both being male, the devouring being sexual, and the two female characters fate resting solely on the male characters in the story. Expanding upon that, the wolves and foxes in this piece all represent male entities. The little read ridding hood is surrounded by wolves, faceless and feetless because she only exists because they do. A tree form grows out of her heart, her only form of expression. She is looking back ghostly little girls, wearing masks of foxes. They are trying to put on the face of little boys, as she pulls the mask off she is disappearing. In front of these figures are heads popping up from the ground, surrounded by phallic mushrooms, poisonous, and suffocating them before they can surface. On the next panel there is a frightening looking wolf or jackal like creature howling out to the viewer. It is up to the viewer to decide if what is coming from him is some sort of phallic organ, an umbilical cord, questioning the gender, or entrails. It leads you to a flock of rabbits, then asking the question if they came from him or if they are destroying him. The answer is in the background above, an outline of a faceless girl riding a fox. In it’s mouth is an arm, relating to castration, which is somewhat of a tribute to Audition and other Asian horror films that inspire me. In the last panel an elongated form of a woman lays on the ground conscious and bare breasted. She represents the two roles women are offered by the patriarchy, sexual object and Mother. The three foxes (sons) chase the daughter (girl) to relate back to the piece, showing how this is a cycle, and also touches upon the desire for male offspring.”
I’ve used three photographs to produce this image. Two for the wolves and one for the background. / For paint effects I used Photoshop elements and for freehand painting, cloning, layers, colour ajustments, I used Corel X3.

Dead of winter in Yellowstone’s Lamar Valley. Wolves and Bison coexist, but if the Bison weaken they may fall prey to the patient wolf pack. Absent obvious illness or weakness in the Bison, the wolves remain a safe distance knowing that the injury they would incur in a frontal attack would undoubtedly lead to their own demise. Digital collage inspired by the howling I hear at night. ;)
Digital art inspired by my love of wildlife, God’s gift to the world. :) This work has been FEATURED in the “Animal Fantasy & Whimsy” group AND in the “Wolves & Wild Kin” group! :)
This is one of the most beautiful wolves I’ve ever seen. While the white coat suggests arctic wolf, the body structure is Alaskan timber wolf- long legs and body, long snout and huge feet. The intelligence and awareness of wolves is something one has to experience first-hand to truly appreciate. They are magnificent animals whose spirit will never be contaminated by humans. The original painting is done in water mixable oils on 13’‘x15’’ hardboard.
At dawn the wolves are withering, / so you can make your way back home.
