Wodonga was the Victorian Broad gauge terminus near the Victoria-New South Wales break of gauge. There were a lot of goods trains moving around the yards. My son was just as keen as I was to get close, but wisdom suggested we should both look from a distance. This meant that he was not close enough to the train, but it was safer thqat way.

In 1949 I shot one roll of Anscochrome and it gave excellent results better than the Kodachrome of its day. However, within a few months it began to lose sharpness, and the image faded badly. I had a Kodachrome duplicate made as soon as I realised this, and this image is from the duplicate. I nevr got a shot of the Spirit on Kodachrome. / The Spirit did not stop at Wodonga so if I got there early for my trip back to Melbourne I could get a shot of it coming through the station past the signal box.
