A montage of my photographs, the traditional Scottish Croft was photographed on the magical Isle of Ulva, Scotland and the woods were photographed on a misty morning in July on the Isle of Mull, Scotland.
Hecate is the Greek goddess of witchcraft, childbirth and the crossroads. She has power over skies, earth and sea, which I wanted to show through each one of the three figures. The central one carries several symbols attributed to the goddess: the pomegranates in her hair remind us of the legend of Persephone, in which she plays an important role; while she hides her right eye behind her hand, the eye still shows through the fingers, meaning that she’s got the “vision”, or the capacity of seeing the past, present and future. The moon under her right breast denotes that Hecate is a moon goddess, and that she protects the women in labor and their offspring – the moon is associated to the motherhood. The black dog is one of her companions. watercolor and pencil on illustration board / 20×15

this is a commission I received from someone who wanted a Stonehenge picture without anyone in it… / here’s the result. Hope it’s alright… / So everyone is aware – this is a photomanipulation – not an actual photo that I took…. / I manipulated sky, grass, clouds, colors…. :) to give it a fantasy feel… Peace, Claudia

Hecate, is a greek goddess with her origens in Turkey, she is the teacher of withcraft and protecter of cross roads whilst guideing people with the lamp or torch she is always seen holding. In this image i have used a number of historical refreances and drawn them in my own way whilst also adding all the items and femilers that are link to the goddess.
Yule / Winter Solstice Yule is the Celtic Festival of the birth of the sun. Winter Solstice is the shortest day and the longest night, but from this day forward the light will grow rather than diminish and the year turns once again towards the Waxing half of the year. In the darkest of nights there is still the silver star of hope and a promise of regeneration. The traditiona of bringing in the Holly,Ivy and Mistletoe at this time of the year is to symbolise that although the land looks cold and dead, life still persisits and the green of Spring and Summer will come again with the stregnthening of the Sun.
Iv’e been working on a range of grail quest images for some time on and off its one of those ledgend that just seem to draw me in each time i return to it and Glastonbury is a place i love to be and now pass through a number of times each year on the way to visit family down in Devon. / Over Yule with all the hussel and bussel of all that happens at this time of year all these images of the grail started popping into my mind and i doddeled them here and there until the madness was over. And this is the first to get to the stage where i’m willing to share it, and as i’ve had such nice comments about seeing my work at the black and white stage. Where i can i will continue to do so. / Here the grail sits at the centre of a maze, with rings flowing out like rippels on a pond, the knoted ring will be white on one side and red on the other representing the two springs. whilst below the grail is the symbol of the challace garden spring. Above the grail i have added in the cressent of the moon and the pentagram locked in its grasp whilst the challace its self is bound in celtic knot work. / I hope you all like it i know it felt inspired as it came together.
The Rollright Stones, Oxfordshire, England Still used for Witches ceremonies today
This image has been up before but due to request i have now increased its size. Hecate is most commonly known as the goddess of witchcraft, but she also has many other symbols and meaning and her history dates back to Turkey before being addopted by the Greeks. Hecate is always seen carrying a lamp or touch as she is linked to seeing the dead into Haydes, and its this link with the lost that links her with cross-roads. She is also linked with all things that come out at night but only the wolf is portrayed with her at all times, but owls, wild boar, bats, snakes, pumpkins and black dogs can also be linked to her.
/ Burley`s most infamous inhabitant lived there during the 1950s – a white witch named Sybil Leek. She wandered through the village with her pet jackdaw and was an authority on New Forest life, having spent much of her time living with Forest gypsies. /

I am designing 12 images based around the months of the year and the old Celtic luna months. They will reflect the changing of the seasons and the ever turning wheel of the year, the magic and mystery attatched to each part of the cycle and any special festivals falling in those months. I hope you enjoy them as much as I am enjoying creating them :) Blessings Angie* These make magical cards for Birthday months :-)
