Self Portrait in Sepia
...These most recent pieces (my best work yet) reflect how I choose to view myself, life and everything it ‘that is’...!! I would describe life in the same way I do myself…. a mess… but a BEAUTIFUL one!!! ...These latest pieces would not have been brought to life without the inspiration of my BEST friend. She not only inspired this latest work but the title for this piece too! =)
Someday… on a clear, still, moonlit night; / To the beach, is where we’ll go. / With a blanket and hot chocolate already packed; / Walk, hand in hand, on soft, warm sand; / Down to the water’s edge, where we’ll dance awhile; / Oh, to hold you close and whisper in your ear; / Those three words you’ve longed to hear. / Brush aside the hair which hides your face; / See a smile grow and laughter kiss your lips; / Then sit with you ‘til dawn‘s early light; / Your hand in my left, hot chocolate in my right. / Precious moments, dreams and memories; / Someday… with you, I want to share.
The best way to describe this piece would be to quote the song lyrics to Paula Cole’s song ‘Feeling Love’. Love, love You make me feel like a sticky pistil… / leaning into a stamen / You make me feel like a mister sunshine… / Himself / You make me feel like splendor in the grass… / While we’re rollin’ / Damn skippy baby / You make me feel like the Amazon’s runnin’ between… / my thighs CHORUS: You make me feel love, love, love, love, love / love, love, love, love, love / You make me feel love, love, love, love, love / love, love, love, love You make me feel like a candy apple / All red and horny / You make me feel like I wanna be a dumb blonde / In a centerfold, the girl next door / And I would open the door and… / I’d be all wet / With my tits soaking through this tiny little t-shirt… / That I’m wearing / And you would open the door and tie… / Me up to the bed Chorus Lover, I don’t know who I am / Am I very wide? Am I hot inside? / Lover, I’m glazed with your hot compunctions / Oh baby babe babe baby / I will be your Desdemona ahhhhh… Take your time You make me feel Ahaa / You make me feel WooWoo baby / You make me feel Ahaa mmm / You make me feel loved If you haven’t heard this song you should have a listen. It has to be the HOTTEST song I’ve ever heard. I can GUARANTEE you won’t find a hotter one! (If you think you know of a hotter one, tell me, I’d love to know what it is!)

Here is my friend dreaming in her share house in Cadogan road Fairview Dublin cerca 1993. What had struck her right then I do not know in fact I do not remember whether I asked her to strike such a pose but I think not. I love the image and I particularly like that at that moment a little bubble lived briefly atop the fairy liquid bottle. Her twin sister is in in my portfolio too.
10×14 watercolor enhanced colored pencil. Original available. This is a ringtailed lemur. / All lemurs are endangered species or threatened species. Many species went extinct in the last centuries, mainly due to habitat destruction (deforestation) and hunting. Although conservation efforts are under way, options are limited because of the lemurs’ limited range and because of Madagascar’s economic situation. There are 85 living lemur species accounted for in current publications, with more documentation currently awaiting publication. Indigenous superstitions that strepsirrhines like the nocturnal Aye-aye are omens and harbingers of bad fortune motivate some locals in remote areas to post hunting traps. One of the foremost lemur research facilities is the Duke University Lemur Center. Complete 2008

While the imagery is very much the same, this is actually more of a serene, dreamy concept. One of simply floating in the wonder of life itself, and letting the beauty carry you. Lucky enough to have this amazing woman choose to marry me. / Even luckier to have her agree to pose for a couple of pics :-) (very camera shy). Inspired by my Canuck friend Shelly’s awesome portraits with a scarf (you all know her). But I chose low-key rather than high-key. Wasn’t going to put it up here …. am putting it up to show the contrast in what life eyes can have when compared to my previous pic – No Hope. Shot using: / Nikon D80 / 50mm f/1.8 / 1/40 sec in front of a window.

Wistful Girl Braiding Hair after Renoir Renoir is one of my favourite artists and I’ve been working on my oil version of his painting Girl Braiding Hair for the past month. / It’s not an exact copy as I just couldn’t do it besides I have a natural inclination to elongate figures. / I started with a charcoal pencil sketch and you can see even though I thought it was a close rough sketch at the time, I had already naturally elongated the body. / / Here is Renoir’s wonderful original for comparison and for your interest / Hope you like it as I thoroughly enjoyed putting away my 3D and going old schoo againl;) / / Available as an art print, card, canvas, mounted print and poster. / Image copyright © 2009 Shanina Conway. / Copying and displaying or redistribution of this image without permission from the artist is strictly prohibited /
