  • This image is of a very steep slope off The Razorback near Mt.Hotham toward Mt.Feathertop. You can clearly see the effects of both the weather and gravity on the paterned snow. It is amazing how tough the snowgums are, and the places they can survive. ~ / Browse Images by Category : Snow Landscape Nature

  • “Don’t be afraid of opposition. Remember, a kite rises against, not with the wind.” – Hamilton Wright. /   Windswept by Shane Smart. / Millicent, South Australia. / © 2007. /   HDR – Three exposures (-2, 0, +2). / Combined and tonemapped in Photomatix and finished in CS2. Also available:

  • Poulnabrone dolmen is a 5,000 year old portal tomb in the limestone Burren area of County Clare, Ireland. The dolmen consists of a massive flat capstone supported on several upright pillars, and would originally have been covered by a mound of earth. Archeological excavations found several traces of human remains at the burial site, which now stands as a stark reminder of an ancient civilisation. Looking back through the mists of time, who knows what ancient religious rites took place at this barren and windswept scene? Winner of the Heritage in Stone group challenge Stone Circles and Standing Stones.

  • Carved By Nature’s Wrath / The 12 Apostles, Victoria Following a day of torrential rain and gale force winds, the sun shone momentarily, lighting up the moody sky, before plunging the rugged coastline into complete darkness. As night falls, a solitary waterfall is all that remains of the passing storms, returning the much needed rain to the swollen seas of the shipwreck coast. • Two artists sit on a rocky outcrop waiting for the world, earth, universe to do it’s thing. Magic. Bruny Island, Southern Tasmania, Australia

  • Pencil sketch/doodle I did in English class a year ago.

  • Getting to know the stars is an important part of landscape photography. Using a compass and G.P.S I was able to pinpoint the South Celestial Star. Because of the rotation of the earth, using a six hour exposure gives the feeling of the stars trailing around this point. I used a 5 million candle power flashlight to illuminate the sand dune. Because of the massive size of the dune I had to climb an adjacent dune and paint the light on from there. • I’ve had my nose buried in the art of Da Vinci over the past couple of days, re-familiarizing myself with his mastery. / As much as I love his paintings, it’s his sketchwork that intrigues me the most…... his sketch workups for his paintings have such humanity in them, his invention sketches showing us a tiny glimpse of his genius, & those anatomy sketches giving us some insight into his constant need for knowledge…. Sadly I haven’t drawn anything for almost 5 years, but today the great Master has inspired me to pick up a pen after all this time, & I have to say it feels great! This image began life 12 years ago as a single line drawing hastily sketched as a thought came into my head. I’ve often looked at it with stirrings of interest….. / So today, with visions of Da Vinci & ancient manuscripts in my head I am drawing again .
