Blue Moon rider so many moons ago, it seems / Land and Sky were vast as was Creators’ scheme Alas, it’s now gone as human progress forsakes / All living things forgotten and lost to a memory’s keepsake As I await our call to return to All our Relations / While in dreams I long for a Tribe of All Nations… WindOwl 2008 A pencil sketch photographed and edited with Wacom Graphic pad and layered with Harvest Moon shot in Photoshop7.
The photograph is of a framed card that was gifted to us, years ago. While the saying is Cherokee and we have used this parable with our children, grandchildren, friends and family for years. In fact, my husband and I remind one another, whether we are BEING a bad wolf or a good wolf, while reacting to life’s observances.
I posted a photograph of a Great Horned Owl a few days ago for a challenge, in commentary I asked Way of the Warrior if he could do his ‘magic touch’ on it and the collaboration began… / He did 4 beautiful edits with the 2 photos I sent him and this was my favorite! WindOwl is my ‘handle’, spirit name and who I aspire to be… / The Wind is a force of Nature, air in natural motion – an influential force or trend that touches everything in its path, sometimes a gentle breeze and other times, as a hurricane. / The Owl is a bird of prey, long associated with wisdom and truth, honoring intuition, using discernment, outsmarting deception and trusting first impressions. / Together, my intentions are ultimately aspiring to help others transition and transform into who they aspire to be… The Three Faces of Owl / The wisest of the bird clan, awakening to honor Grandfather Sun – then sleeping, while Mother Nature unleashes her wondrous glory, upon unseeing eyes and broken promises, from the gray matter, we Humans call Truth. Awakening once more to honor Grandmother Moon and discover the darkness is only feared by those afraid of their Self. tkrosevear Thanks to Tony for helping me to re-defining my intentions and Salute the Pack!
This is a photograph taken at the Mirage, in Las Vegas – I played with it in Photoshop with a new birthday gift, Redfield Fractilius Plug-in and voila… Dolphins are very powerful and magical creatures to most all cultures, but thought by coastal Native Americans as such because they breathe air, but live in the water and considered to being the keepers of the sacred breath of life or manna. Arrows leaping and flashing through the water so blue / to release debilitating emotions with breath, its true; Free as the wind upon the sea of discovery to play / communicating clicks of trust – what do you say? Balance and harmony create rhythm in our life, / just breathe in the wisdom and forget all strife; Beautiful creature, brother arrow of the sea / teach me to live as one with you and BREATHE! In honor of the anniversary of my ancestors, The Cherokee (Tsalagi) – I wish to share a part of myself with all who have joined The Beginning of a new Trail... The Spirit of the Native Indian group has honored us all on this day and for this I am grateful. The photograph is part of an old quilt with the Cherokee Seven -pointed star which represents the seven clans; I am of the Bird Clan, our color is purple and our wood is Maple; the Owl represents my name “WindOwl”, this particular Owl is a barn owl that I rescued several years ago from being shot, then run over – I learned much from this raptor while we spent 9 months together, before his release. As I finished this work this morning, I was soon reminded that my path must be sacred and true, as I witnessed 4 Bald Eagles and 2 Golden Eagles sitting along the river treeline, never since we’ve been here have I seen a grouping like this together. My body was tingling from head to toe and I got so caught up in the beauty, I could only take a few photographs (which I’ll share soon). / In Northern America, the Eagle was considered great medicine power. To the Native Americans there were different kinds and divisions of Eagles. The Golden Eagle had a very high rank. The most potent and magical was the Sky Eagle which the Iroquois called Shadahgeyah. Among the Hopi, the Eagle god was called Kwahu and according to their legends, this great bird seldom came below the clouds; only the holiest of Shamans ever saw it. Even the Aztecs said this bird represented celestial power and the rising Sun. / As a Solar Eclipse approaches with the Chinese New Year on 1/26/09, the thought behind this Mandala becomes more clear…”We Are ALL One Tribe” Rainbow Hoop Created with Wacom Graphic pad/pen and enhanced with Redfield plug-in fractilius filter and photoshop7
Color represents a rate of vibration, or a harmony within our energy field. The colors have different vibrations, properties and represent different levels of awareness. We even choose to wear colors that harmonize with our own energetic field. Red – energy / Orange – energy, peace / Yellow – peace / Green – healing & growth / Blue – spirituality / Torquoise – healing & spirituality / Indigo – spirituality & divine protection / Purple – wisdom, knowledge & divine protection / Pink – love / Gray – fear / Black – unknown & unconscious / White – truth & purity / Brown – grounding This is a photograph of a prism crystal close-up that I played with in Redfield plug-ins (fractilius) in photoshop7 Colors of the Wind
“If you talk to the animals they will talk with you and you will know each other. If you do not talk to them you will not know them and what you do not know, you will fear. What one fears, one destroys.” Chief Dan George EarthTribe
Many years ago, sometime in the early 1990’s, my husband and I were travelling through Hopi land, outside of Truth or Consequences, Arizona and happened upon a Tribal officer while camping, and we shared a pot of coffee with him. In our conversation, he noticed a basket of sacred white sage, that I usually wrapped while we drove through the countryside, prompting him to telling us about Oraibi, the oldest (still standing) native site in the U.S. He continued by telling us of a gathering there on the following day, and that he’d like to invite us to attend and we wholeheartedly agreed. / We started our morning having a traditional Hopi breakfast of Frybread, black beans and eggs, then we drove up to the Mesas, ignoring the signs that read “No White Man beyond this point”, we drove up a winding road, while I wrapped and was burning sage. When we reached the dwellings, many people were coming out of their homes and surrounding our hippie van (‘78 Dodge). It turns out they had not had white sage (grandmother sage) growing on their land for a couple of years, so when they smelled it coming from our vehicle they had to investigate. Thank Creator that it grew like weeds on our property in California, and we had plenty with us. We gifted several people with wrapped bundles, while others wished to trade for torquoise, blue corn and dye-making instruction. It was a wonderful morning, and we felt good that they mentioned it was a significant gift for the upcoming gathering, which they also invited us to attend. / After eating lunch with a beautiful Hopi family, we drove down the Mesa, following our new friends to Oraibi. When we arrived, there were maybe a dozen people standing around, we got out of the van and an elder man in jeans, a flannel shirt and a bandana around his head, approached us, as I held out a small basket of bundled sage, he just smiled. He took the basket in his roughly worn hands and motioned for us to follow him. We sat down in a circle with what grew to about 30 people, at this time and another man began speaking about the Earth and introduced the elderly man as the authorized spokesperson to speak on behalf of the Elders of the Hopi Nation – Thomas Banyacaya. / I was actually aware of who this elder was, and shocked that I was standing beside him as he was to address a chosen group of tribal and non-tribal (us) members, which was now about 75 people. This humble man would share a message of clear intent and great importance… We are the One’s we have been waiting for… / We have been telling the people that this is the eleventh hour. Now you must go back and tell the people that this is the hour. And there are things to be considered: / Where are you living? / What are you doing? / What are your relationships? / Are you in right relationship? / Know your garden. It is time to speak your truth. Create your community. Be good to each other. And do not look outside yourself for a leader. This could be a good time. / There is a river flowing now very fast. It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid. They will try to hold onto the shore. They will feel they are being torn apart and they will suffer greatly. / Know the river has its destination. The elders say we must let go of the shore and push off into the river. Keep your eyes open and your head above water. See who is in there with you and celebrate. / At this time in history, we are to take nothing personally. Least of all ourselves. For the moment that we do, our spiritual growth and journey come to a halt. / The time of the Lone Wolf is over. Gather yourselves! / Banish the word struggle from your attitude and your vocabulary. / All that you do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration. / We are the one’s we have been waiting for.” This artwork is a symbol of the rain deity that I remembered from a rock drawing we saw while at Hopi land, near Betatakin. Drawn, photographed, then painted in photoshop7 (it is also the T-shirt design called Earth Tribe with a slight alteration) All, all and everything is of importance and nothing that is good happens fast. Thanks to my serendipitous sister, owlspook, a link providing the same message ;) New Hopi Prayer

Savior of a Language This photograph is of a Cherokee shawl, a plate of the Cherokee alphabet (found miraculously at a yard sale many years ago) with a merged photo of a bust of sequoyah from a museum. Sequoyah was born between 1760 and 1770 five miles from the original Cherokee capital of Chota in Tuskegee, now part of Tennessee. At that time, the Cherokees were an independent nation still living on their original tribal lands. They were coexisting with the British Colonies as equal neighbors and were making seperate trade agreements with the government. / Sequoyah’s mother ‘Wurteh’ belonged to a prominent Cherokee family, whose three brothers and nephew were all chiefs. Sequoyah’s father was probably a white shopkeeper, named Nathaniel Gist with whom Wurteh lived until he went home to Virginia, while Sequoyah was still an infant. Gist had nothing further to do with either of them and died before Sequoyah became famous. / Wurteh brought up Sequoyah in a little cabin in the Overhills country, resembling a fullblood, was interested in everything and became a blacksmith and self-taught silversmith. He was naturally mechanical and a gifted artist whose special talent was for drawing animals. He married, had a family of four sons and settled on some land in the village of Tallahassee, not far from his birthplace. / As a very young man he had noticed the power that the ability to read gave the white man. He began to think and talk, both jokingly and seriously, about creating an equivalent advantage for the Cherokees. / About 1806 he and other Cherokees were forced off their land, and he moved his family to Alabama. In 1809 he started working on the syllabary, with a pair of silver spurs on which he had a friend stamp his Cherokee name in English letters – sitting for hours turning the spurs in his hand, thinking and jotting down tentative ideas on wood shingles. He used his nephew’s speller and some printed alphabets lent by missionaries for ideas as to the function of the letters. For the sounds of the letters represented he had to rely on his own powers of analysis, since he knew no English at all at this time. / The alphabets he saw are supposed to have included English, Hebrew and Greek. / During the Creek War of 1813-1814, he fought against the Creek for the US Government, interrupting his work, but after injuring his leg, he returned to the syllabary zealously until the cabin that contained all his work burnt down. / Migrating to Arkansas, he started over on the syllabary, reducing 200 letters to 86, remarried in 1815 and in 1821 was granted a hearing before the tribal council presenting written messages between his daughter and himself, proving writing worked just as well in Cherokee as in English. The council was impressed and Sequoyah began teaching youths and in a few months the whole nation was reading and writing the Official Cherokee alphabet in 1821. / In 1825, a medal was struck for him by the US and he began Cherokee periodical printed in Cherokee. He also visited Washington on behalf of the Cherokees in 1827, prior to the ‘Trail of Tears’. In 1839, as the president of the Westaern Cherokees, with his cousin George Lowrey, the president of the Eastern Band, they co-signed an Act of Union, uniting the two previously separated and warring tribes. / In 1842, he set off to Mexico looking for dissident members of the tribe, apparently becoming ill and dying around San Fernando, Mexico in 1843, where his grave has never been found. Like so many traditional heroes of other nations, he had vanished into legend, leaving a legacy of an alphabet, language and writing skills for his people.
Suddenly the hour is gone…and it is anybody’s guess what we did with it. / Did we enjoy anything? / U li lo hv s gi, pleasant times are for a purpose, the Cherokee believes. / It is not just u wo tiv di, something to amuse us, but pleasure slows the heart, lowers blood pressure and gives ease to the mind. / Something beyond the awareness tries to slow the human spirit from living so intensely. / It is not natural to push the mind and body until such weariness takes over that there is no natural relief. / A pause, a a tsa we so lv s di, which means repreive or rest, will give us strength and renewed vision. / Without it, we are burned out and we enjoy nothing. Have a vision not clouded by FEAR! Sing and dance with joy… Cherokee Dance of Spirit photograph of a coaster, edited in photoshop7 and redfield plug-in fractilius
Honoring intuition, using discernment, outsmarting deception and trusting first impressions are some of the ‘medicine’ traits of the OWL. / The ‘Medicine’ of TRUTH…like the invisible owls you hear at night, your awareness in the midst of blackness, perceives reality. In the night you find illumination. Oh yes, the night is dark, but the world is still real for those who see with their intuitive side. / My dear sister Judi, as you learn to trust your clairvoyant nature, you learn that truth flows through you, much the same way silent OWL glides through the night. Honor this ability to serve CREATION…. My husband came in from outside, quite giddy with this discovery – a Great Horned Owl in one of our many Pine Trees surrounding the ponds that he was cleaning debris from. What a gift to be able to photograph her in the daylight hours, besides seeing her after discussing the medicine of her truths. As is photograph taken 2/18/09. WindOwl Eyes of Truth

Kodiak Bear is the largest of all the brown bears of the Alaskan coast and islands, which weight up to 680 kilogram. Also known as the Big Brown (because of the size) and the Alaskan brown bear these giants fatten on everything from mountain blueberies to washed-up whale carcasses, but their particular prey is the big Pacific salmon that come up the coastal rivers each summer to spawn. Seeing a Kodiak bear rearing its monstrous bulk in the air to spot a likely fishing hole, one finds it hard to realize that it was born blind and helpless, an infant the size of a rat and weighing less than a pound Kodiak Bear (Ursus arctos middendorffi) is the largest terrestrial carnivore. It is a variety of brown bear living Alaska. The kodiak bear draws its name from the island Kodiak, one of the islands of the gulf of Alaska, but one also finds some on the peninsula and the close islands, like Afognak and Shuyak. / The size of the large males exceeds 3 m and their weight can reach a ton. As in all the brown bears, the color is very variable from one individual to another. Some are greyish, others very dark, others of brown clearly drawing on the yellow. / Like the polar bear, the poverty of the vegetation in the sorry areas where it saw makes it primarily carnivorous. Kodiak bear is a placid and solitary animal of which the independent source of food seems to be consisted of salmons that it sins in the rivers and the brooks. On the Kodiak island, kodiak bear eats many plants and salmon. Bear has always been my Winter Totem, awakening the power of the unconscious and this last full moon of Winter it was a most beautiful gift to share space with their strength and inner-knowing. Many Native American Medicine Society’s, in almost every tribe consisted of a society of women, or bringers of the rain that nurtures the abundance of their food sources. The Three Sisters ~ corn, beans and squash fed many tribal peoples as a regular staple when game, fish and other crops were not plentiful. The WhirlWind Buffalo Sisterhood began just before Miracle, the white buffalo calf was born in Wisconsin, on August 20, 1994. A rainbow culture promising peace among all nations and all people, stressing equality and opposing any superior race that controls or conquers other peoples. The Unity of all colors, all creeds, all beliefs, working together for the good of the whole and when all pathways to wholeness are respected by all cultures, the prophesy of the Whirling Rainbow will be completed. When the time of the White Buffalo, the third generation of White eyes children will grow their hair and speak of love as the healer of the Children of the Earth. These children will seek new ways of understanding themselves and others. They will wear feathers and beads and paint their faces. They will seek the Elders of the Red Race and drink of their wisdom. These white-eyes will be a sign that the ancestors are returning in white bodies, but they are red on the inside. They will learn to walk the Earth Mother in balance again and reform the ideas of the white chiefs. These children will be tested as they were when they were Red ancestors by unnatural substances, like firewater, to see if they can remain on the Sacred Path. After the time when the buffalo returned, the generation following the Flower Children would see the dawning of the Fifth World of Peace. Appearing to those who see, would be a Sun Dog, or full rainbow circle around the Sun that has bright white lights at the Four Directions, a rare natural phenomena. Enough of the Earth Children will be awakened to carry the responsibility of the teachings and the healing process will begin in full swing. Many will remember their “purpose” for being here on Earth and will develop their gifts to assist humanity. Truth will shatter the bonds of separation and goodness will prevail with tolerance, acceptance and understanding. The WhirlWind Buffalo Sisterhood has consistently sought knowledge that changes lies to truths, that have made us mistrust one another and replace the illusion of separation with the truth of UNITY. In non-violence and peaceful energetic, teach that a worthy opponent will present lessons to make us grow beyond any high drama and into a sense of unity within Self, to then share with others remembering that any challenges to unity are equal to our ability to overcome them. The buffalo symbolized not only the strength of the Whirlwind, but also prosperity and abundance ~ the past 15 years, since Miracles’ birth ~ the Tribe of All Nations has been gathering physically, mentally, emotionally, tribally, socially, morally and spiritually all over the world, even more so with cyber-space communications. The idea of sacred space has been one of the foundations of Native American philosophy throughout time. We see all life-forms as having their own life cycles, from the Stone (rock) people, to a Cloud person, or to a Standing (tree) person ~ they all have a space that deserves respect. Every creature being has its own territory and respects the territory of other animals. Two-leggeds (humans) also have a personal space that, if respected, becomes Sacred Space. This Mandala was created to represent ‘Sacred Space’ on the Blue Road to Spirit… teepees (home/shelter) in the cardinal directions: White/North; Yellow/East; Red/South; and Black/West (also symbolic of the 4 races). Day skies & Night skies, cloud people, thunder/lightening beings, standing people, mountains, sun and moon. Arrows of respectful friendship and feathers for the gift of respect. Sketch was photographed and painted, edited and filtered in Redfield Plug-in Fractilius, in photoshop7. The medicine of Moose is primal feminine energy and the magic of life and death ~ a positive force representing a willingness to “Tell the World” about her feelings. Self~Esteem, the joyfulness that comes with accomplishment without the need for approval and the enjoyment of sharing that comes from the deepest part of one’s being is the wisdom of Moose. / Moose medicine people have the ability to know when to use the gentleness of Deer and when to activate the stampede of Buffalo, as they understand the balance between giving orders to get things done, along with the willingness to do things themselves. / So, if you have happened upon this photo and itmakes you feel good, you have probably accomplished something on your journey…broken a habit, completed a goal or task, or youhave a new sense of self that you have fought hard to earn.
