*FYI This topic was not inspired by the challenges in redbubble-it was inspired by outside challenges, sports and being a Mom. / First of all this has a lot to do with several things in life. What is a challenge? What are the rules? Who is competing? What are the odds? Who is being honest and who is not!! You have to consider all things and decide if it is worth the risk to you, your self esteem, your situation at the time, or even your loved ones. A judged competition is so different from a race where your placement is pretty obvious. What if you base your life on a series of competitions such as a dancer, a figure skater or an artist does? You are constantly being judged by other people and lots of times it’s the outcome of the competitions that shape who you are or your life’s decisions. It’s the ones who win that end up becoming more popular or successful. They end up being the ones that get more attention from coaches, spectators, judges and others and this is what makes them successful, they become the “known” or “obvious” choices. Even if their work is not spectacular or their performance is mediocre, they still come out on top because of who they are, not necessarily because of what they have done. On the other hand, it is the ones that don’t win that end up stepping aside and maybe giving up totally because they feel invisible against the so called winners. The world loses many a talented person because of such situations. Not everyone develops at the same rate, athletically or artistically, and if you were to give that non-winning person one more chance, or a little bit of time, you may see something amazing. You need to look at different angles and judge the whole situation on what you see or what you like and not on what someone else says or because “they won”. Often, we limit ourselves to the thoughts, recommendations or judgements of other people, and forget to use our brains to formulate our own thoughts. It’s great to be a winner, and the feeling of recognition is awesome, but that does not make you any better than the next person, or even more talented. We are all human and we all have special gifts, everyone has something to offer. We are the ones that have to live with ourselves and our decisions every day. Honesty is a great thing and taking the time to really look at other people, listening to them, and not forming an instant opinion, can make you learn something you’ve never heard of. Watching what a person can do and not criticizing them for what they can’t, looking at the world with your very own open eyes and not the same eyes as everyone else, can be an enlightening, awesome, uplifting experience. The world loses talent on a daily basis because of opinions of narrow minded individuals. I have seen so many people give up, on sports, art, and unfortunately, life, because of something a judge, coach or peer has said to them. There are no molds in life, why do we keep on trying to make people fit into one? We all need to enjoy our own uniqueness, as it is a gift. Remember, we all have talents, although some may not be as obvious as others, and we all need a little reassurance once in a while. Everyone is special and everyone is a winner even if they are not the ones that win. Nobody has a right to judge and everyone has an opinion that matters, we need to take the time to look at the whole picture, the developing part, the hidden part and the wonderful parts that are yet to come. These are just my thoughts…..............If this helps just one person it has served its purpose here.
