Taken at Weymouth, Dorset in Spring 2007 / Photographer: GlennB / Glenn Bauer of Wiltshire, England A large number of these had been released from their pen by activists under cover of darkness the night before. I found this one a little apart from the heard just chilling in the gentle Atlantic waves off Southern England’s coast.
This year Salisbury will be celebrating the 750th anniversary of the consecration of the completed Cathedral in 1258. / The spire is 404 feet tall, the highest in Europe… no words of mine can add anything to its beauty! Although I was born in Salisbury, so might be biased, I am sure noone would disagree with the magnificence of this marvellous building. / Captured at 17mm, 30 second exposure, f9, ISO 100 Sold as a mounted print – many thanks to the unknown buyer /
Stonehenge, Wiltshire, UK. The prehistoric site dates back to 3100 BC. I drive past it regularly and it never fails to impress.
The painting is based on a photo I took on Dartmoor a few years ago. The light was fantastic and I’ve expanded on that to create this vibrant landscape.
Now in the keeping of the National Trust, Stourhead was formerly owned by the Hoare family. / In his youth, Henry Hoare II visited Italy. He became fascinated by the remains of classical and Renaissance Rome. Back at Stourhead, Hoare filled his garden with an extraordinary set of buildings and statues to remind him of his travels. / For early 18th-century men of taste like Henry Hoare II, the 16th-century Italian architect, Andrea Palladio, was the supreme designer. / The Palladian Bridge, built in 1762, was based on a bridge in Vicenza designed by Palladio and forms the centre point of many of the garden’s classic views. Although purely ornamental, the bridge also serves to create the illusion that the lake is a river, flowing from the village down into the valley. / July 2008. /

I truly love the deep warm colours of Autumn….. This photograph was taken on an early morning wander through the magical land of Savernake Forest in Wiltshire, England. There was an early morning mist that slowly lifted as the sun shone through the canopy of the trees, revealing the most mystical setting. This was one of those moments where I simply had to press the trigger on the camera, mother nature did all the hard work…....
Rich and vibrant autumn colours in the early morning sun at these world famous gardens in Wiltshire with the faintest hint of the morning mist remaining on the far side of the lake.
This well-known English village gets featured on everything from calendars to chocolate box lids! / This location also featured in the film Dr Doolittle which stared Rex Harrison. During this time a certain Ranulph Fiennes became offended by the construction of an ugly concrete dam built to create a harbour scene. Fiennes planned to demolish the dam. He used explosives which he later claimed to have obtained legitimately from the armoury. Using skills from a recently completed training course on evading search dogs by night, he escaped capture, but he and a guilty colleague were both subsequently traced. After a court case, Fiennes had to pay a hefty fine and he and his co-conspirator were discharged from the SAS. Fiennes was initially posted to another cavalry regiment but was then allowed to return to his regiment. I’m fortunate to live only a few miles away, so managed to capture this classic scene in the early morning before the tourist coaches arrived! Stourhead Gardens, Wiltshire
Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument located in the English county of Wiltshire, about 3.2 kilometres (2.0 mi) west of Amesbury and 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) north of Salisbury. One of the most famous prehistoric sites in the world, Stonehenge is composed of earthworks surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones. Archaeologists believe that the iconic stone monument was erected around 2500 BC, however this was not the first stone structure on the site. The surrounding circular earth bank and ditch, which constitute the earliest phase of the monument, have been dated to about 3100 BC. Stonehenge was a place of burial from its beginning to its zenith in the mid third millennium B.C. The cremation burial dating to Stonehenge’s sarsen stones phase is likely just one of many from this later period of the monument’s use and demonstrates that it was still very much a domain of the dead.
Packbridge over Bybrook Between Christmas and the New Year I had an opportunity to return to Castle Combe in Wiltshire, which justifiably lays claim to being one of England’s prettiest villages. This is a shot of the Packbridge, which carries the main street over the Bybrook stream. The village was fairly quiet on this wintry Sunday morning, but the White Hart and Castle Inn were doing a brisk lunchtime trade! Date: 28th December 2008
This is ‘the’ classic image of the lake and Palladian Bridge at Stourhead, a National Trust property in Wiltshire. / I make no apologies for this shot, as you cannot visit Stourhead without feeling the urge to take this photograph. There’s plenty of other opportunities for seeking alternatives, but this is a shot you just have to take. / I was once told by a camera club judge that I must have put the legs of my tripod in the same three holes that everyone else uses! I don’t care, it’s a perfect classical scene of this wonderful place and the landscape gardener went to a lot of trouble to create it – so it seems rude not to take it! / That same judge also suggested it was a digital shot because the sky looked too blue, whilst in fact it was taken on my old 6×4.5 film camera with a polarising filter! Corsham, Wiltshire U.K. / Late December, heavy fog. / Home of ‘The Two Pigs’ pub. Camilla Parker Bowles lived there at the time, before she married Prince Charles. One of my favorite little towns while in the U.K.
I love photographing architecture – whether it’s old or new, and here I have both! A rebuilt windmill on a business park in Swindon, Wiltshire is releftected in the glass of a modern office building. / In the 1980s, the windmill was moved, brick by brick, from its original site in the Wiltshire village of Chiseldon, where it had stood since the 1820s. These modern buildings are listed monuments by English Heritage.
