    by Tim Wright

This was a scene that was quite noisy and a little scary in person. The wind was blowing this thing all over the place and i wasn’t sure where it was going next. The lightning didn’t seem that safe either. That being said, I think the photo came out very peaceful. / Wildfire started by lightning just south of Goodyear, Arizona June 25th, 2008. / (my first ever picture of lightning)

  • Firestorm
    by ArtByDrew

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Bows only to the wind that blows / Unhindered in it’s wrath / Tree to ground to tree it grows / Destroys all in it’s path / / The firestorm born from small spark / Voice crackles to a roar / Wanders about to leave land stark / With only ashen floor / / The firestorm we all create / Yet blame on one or two / The time has come to set things straight / From us… this fire grew / / This fractal artwork was inspired by the multitude of wildfires that have been occurring with increasing frequency and ferocity worldwide. Not only are these wildfires increasing, but they are also occurring during the coldest and wettest times of the year in many places. Greece, Australia, China, Europe, and the US have all had record breaking wildfires in the past year. / / My wife and I moved to the Pacific Northwest, one of the wettest places on the planet, after recognizing the climate change trend over a decade ago. We used to live high in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, until in 2000, we came within a third of a mile of loosing our own home in the High Meadow wildfire near Bailey, Colorado. There is nothing more terrifying than listening to the roar of a wildfire as you are watching flames several hundred feet high marching towards your home. We were extremely lucky, and listened to the message that was given us and moved to the Pacific Northwest coast. / / We are all paying the price now for what we have done to our planet. The climate change created by the by-products of our relentless pursuit of what we deem ‘progress’, is ultimately responsible for these fires. Unfortunately, these events are only in their infancy and will continue to break records as the mean temperature of our atmosphere around the globe continues to increase. / / The original is 4800×4800 pixels at 300 pixels per inch. It was created in Apophysis. The gradient was created in ApoMap, a gradient editor commonly used with Apophysis. The fractal was created as a transparency and then used as a layer in Photoshop post-processing. The background was created in Photoshop. The post processing was all done in Photoshop as well. Because the original is so large and difficult to see over the internet, I have included a couple of detail cutaways below. / / / / / / / /

A tentative foray into the world of abstract art. I am pleased by the dynamics here, as well as the final palette.

  • I shot this sequence of images on July 22, 2008 here in Anderson, CA. The Aftermath is meant to be a bit dramatic….though the sun appears rather beautiful in this state, it still reflects the many lives which have been forever changed due to the wildfires burning here in Northern California…....and in the days before (the containment) after (the fires), lives were forever changed…......... / I appreciate all of you who have been commenting on this “smokey” series and appreciate all of your views and favorites… / / / ___ / All The Materials Contained May Not Be Reproduced, Copied, Edited, Published, Transmitted Or Uploaded In Any Way Without My Permission. • The last photo in the series – I promise!! • Our Turn to Cry....
    by inAWE

    US$5.32–US$121.60

Four days ago I posted photos of a neighbour’s farm burning…. / Today it was our turn. / The horror of seeing the flames racing across hundreds of acres, and the trees burning, within five hundred meters of our homes, was quite overwhelming. Thank God, the wind changed direction and kept it away from our houses…..only my nephew’s house suffered damage although hundreds of acres were burned and a lot of this year’s hay crop destroyed. / Again I say how grateful I am to the volunteer fire fighters of this district and all who dropped what they were doing to come and battle the blaze. Without them, it would have jumped the highway and continued on towards town. Hay burning…. / / The view from my back door tonight….. All proceeds from the sale of this image and any other in this profile will go to the Wildlife Appeal to assist the silent victims of the bushfires in Australia.

...a tribute to one of my favorite songs…

  • I took this from our back garden yesterday about 5 minutes before the wind shifted so miraculously. I think it shows just how close we came to getting out, although I don’t think it was as close as the picture suggests, but had the wind not changed it could have been a different story. This is the 4th time in the 19 years we’ve lived here and each time we’ve been saved by a last minute wind change. Someone up there is looking after us, that’s for sure. / Peter

  • Sun On Fire
    by Anita Donohoe

    US$3.99–US$91.20

This is an untouched photo. The Los Angeles and San Diego County wildfires are burning out of control. I canceled a reunion this weekend in San Diego because of the fires. Too many of our group have been evacuated and the fires burn on. The hurricane force Santa Ana winds should calm down by Friday, when an onshore breeze has been predicted. That will blow the smoke right back where it came from. Air quality is bad because the smoke from the fire has moved all the way up the coast of California. The sun looked like it was on fire when it set this evening.
