Matanuska Glacier Terminus / Chugach Mountains / Alaska Copyright © Sharon Mau 2009 / All Rights Reserved Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi “The Matanuska Glacier is a large ice flow, 24 miles long and 4 miles wide at the terminus, averaging approximately 2 miles in width. It is a valley glacier, and exists on a valley floor. The majority of glaciers in Alaska today are smaller alpine glaciers which hang off mountain slopes. The Matanuska is an active glacier, which advances at one foot per day. It takes approximately 250 years for the ice to form upglacier and advance to the terminus. The ice of an active glacier always moves forward due to gravity; like water in a river, the ice will flow downvalley. When ice melts at a higher rate than snow accumulates, the glacier margin ‘recedes’. (The term ‘receding’ does not refer to the ice actually travelling back up the valley.) The density of glacier ice allows the entire spectrum of light to be absorbed with the exception of the blue light which is reflected, and can therefore be seen by your eye.” Information Source – Matanuska Glacier Park Alaska Seeing, experiencing and walking on this beautiful glacier is a high point of my life and my son David as well, who was there with me on this day! Tiananmen Square (simplified Chinese: 天安门广场; traditional Chinese: 天安門廣場; pinyin: Tiān’ānmén Guǎngchǎng) is the large plaza near the center of Beijing, China, named after the Tiananmen (literally, Gate of Heavenly Peace) which sits to its north, separating it from the Forbidden City. It has great cultural significance as a symbol because it was the site of several key events in Chinese history (See below: Events). Outside of China, the square is widely known for the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989.[citation needed} Again, note the smog.

Winnipeg Manitoba Canada / Esplanade Riel over the Red River just north of the Fork where the Red River and Assiniboine River meet and flow north under this bridge. In the background is downtown Winnipeg. I shot this at f22 and on a tripod. I used iso 200 and a 2-3 sec exposure. I figured the longer the shutter was open the smoother the water would be.
