  • A pair of Giant Australian Cuttlefish (sepia apana), finishing up their “ritual”. Its quite an explosive affair – after spending quite a while wooing the lady, the male settles in for a snuggle (they mate face-to-face). And once it’s over, the pair separate rather violently, pushing off against each other and darting away in opposite directions. This shot was taken near Whyalla, South Australia Every year between June and September, the cuttlefish migrate to these waters in their thousands with just one thing on their minds. It really is quite a spectacular event.
