  • This spectacular coastal scene was a merely 100m from my bed for about 5months – Many times I ventured out early and late to watch and attempt to photograph it how I would best remember it – I hope in years to come this photograph will do it justice… see more photographic works from North Qld. / Nth Qld

  • Twice a day as the tides receed nature’s tidal artwork is unveiled – and what an exhibition it can be ! At glance it may be missed…but with a keener eye patterns emerge..sometimes contoured, other times smooth. Only can nature make such pieces of work that define true beauty on a seemingly endless scale. / / / Canon EOS A2, Fuji Velvia 50. / ©T.Middleton2007 —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / / / see more of my photography from Nth Qld below / / /

  • As dawn breaks on a low tide revealing an incredible array of tidal sand patterns. I discover something that appears out of the ordinary – ‘against the grain…’ / I am unsure of what sort of worm or creature is the architect of this mighty fine little structure but it certainly caught my attention. / / EOS A2, Fuji Velvia 50. / ©T.Middleton2007 —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / / see more of my photography from Nth Qld below /

  • “Serene Seas” Photography & Artwork / by Holly Kempe © Taken at the Whitsunday Islands, Queensland, Australia. “Somewhere beyond the sea / Somewhere waiting for me / My lover stands on golden sands / And watches the ships that go sailin” “Somewhere beyond the sea / She’s there watching for me / If I could fly like birds on high / Then straight to her arms / I’d go sailin’.” / ~ Bobby Darin

  • Dawn promises a new day cruising the Whitsundays can’t think of a better day

  • The rising sun radiates from above Harold Island across the pure silica sands of Whitehaven beach and reflecting in the shallows of the majestic Hill inlet. / Rarely am I compelled to compose a scene with the sun in it…But this time was an exception…The promise of another day in paradise no chance of diminishing amidst the largest and thickest sandfly swarms I have seen anywhere. / / rotating drum lens camera 130deg. field – Velvia 50. / ©T.Middleton2008 / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / To see more of my TRUE panoramic photography click below* / / / / /

  • Inlet Hill from above. This is taken at low tide, which means a lot more of the sand appears. / This picture is taken on a simple Sanyo portable camcorder, with picture mode.

  • 16”x 12” Watercolour painting on cold pressed paper of the sun setting from Long Island, Whitsundays. • Sun Setting Over Dent Island © Vicki Ferrari This was another sunset taken from the mighty nightly War Canoe Sunset Cruise, looking over Dent Island, towards the mainland (Shute Harbour and Airlie Beach,Australia). It was taken around 1990, using my old Minolta SLR (a great workhorse!). I have scanned this 6X8 print from my one of my portfolios, with basic editing in photoshop but basically it is as it was taken back then! Thanks for looking!

  • Nikon D80 / Tamron 11-18 lens / It may look like noise in the water, but it is actually small waves. The sand is so white. To appreciate the size and expanse of this place, you can see a very large yacht just left of the centre midline horizontally and vertically. Featured in “SEA”

  • Whitsundays Dreaming Series: Nara Inlet Nara Inlet between Hook and Whitsunday Islands. Part of the Whitsundays National Park and bordered by the Great Barrier Reef (north Qld). The sand on the beach is so fine and pure (99% silica) that NASA use it to make lenses for telescopes. The inlet offers a very sheltered anchorage for yachts. But, don’t get caught in the wrong spot on an outgoing tide or you’ll end up high and dry until the tide comes back in! On 7 January 1988 the inlet was the scene of a major ‘drug- bust’ when Customs officials and Federal Police seized the yacht Lady V and the motor launch South Passage on which illegal drugs were found. This view can be seen from the lookout on Hook Island. The walk to the top takes about 15 minutes (up) and 8 (down), it’s easy and passes through sub-tropical forest. In the steep wooded hills around the inlet, there are many rock overhangs dispaying signs of Aboriginal habitation which goes back eight thousand years. There’s one at the northern end of the inlet with Aboriginal paintings on its walls. These can be found half way along the steep 20 minute waterfall walk. The water fall only runs after rain (it’s usually not running during winter or the dry season). The Whitsundays comprise 74 islands, with just 18 inhabited; resorts offering basic to luxury accommodation. Camping is possible on many of the uninhabited islands with drop off and pick up services offered by day trip companies. I am very happy to report that the newly revamped campsite on Whitsunday has recently re-open after several years “downtime” for regeneration; it’s a magic place to spend a few days, or longer…
