  • The lighthouse as the sun began to go down and as the causeway began to cover over with the sea , last few people on the island leaving juts as the tide comes in .

  • One from earlier in the summer. My first ever trip to Whitley Bay, after a few hours wandering along the quayside at Newcastle, I decided to have a jaunt along the northern edge of the River Tyne while the light was still strong. / I had previously heard of the place, but didnt realis quite how lovely parts of it are.

  • Taken today down the coast. It was one of only four shots I actually managed to take before my batteries died. All 3 sets of them…..... This was taken in daylight and played around with in CS3. Hope you like it

  • A picture of St Mary’s Lighthouse at Whitley Bay in north tyneside, near Newcastle at low tide.

  • Taken this afternoon at King Edwards Bay. Its been really foggy today and it produced some great shots on the coast

  • Working on HDR imaging, but I’m still very new to it!

  • St Marys at sunset on a beautiful summer evening.

  • Spanish City is in Whitley Bay (UK) and was a place where tourist would flock too. It has the most beautiful beaches but unfortunately there has been a decline in the urban side – however, saying that there is apparently a commitment for regeneration. What makes me sad is that we allow things to fall into this kind of disrepair in the first place – beautiful places like this are blighted by closed down hotels, pubs, amusement parks and cafes. This is part of my college project.

  • COLOURFUL ROCKS ADORNING THE SHORELINE NEAR ST.MARYS LIGHTHOUSE,TYNE AND WEAR,ENGLAND.

  • Left by the retreating tide, creatures of the sand on the beach at Whitley Bay

  • Today I took myself off to the beach during a long lunch…...and it was so peaceful…. / I went for a walk by the lighthouse and just breathed in. / It was weirdly mild today with a gorgeous clear blue sky.

  • As some of you may have gathered, I am going through an experimental stage at present, trying new things … well, new for me anyway :) This is an acrylic painting I just completed today. I plan to do more acrylic painting in the near future. I also plan a few more coloured pencil pictures soon. Bet you that it won’t be worth getting out of my bed? bet it’s raining! that would just be my luck…. all thoughts that flew around my head, thankfully I was wrong on all counts and as a bonus I got back to bed at 5 for a power hour before breakfast and work!! Wikipedia © / St. Mary’s Lighthouse is on the tiny St. Mary’s Island, just north of Whitley Bay on the coast of North East England. The small rocky tidal island is linked to the mainland by a short concrete causeway which is submerged at periods of high tide. / While it no longer functions as a working lighthouse, it is easily accessible (when the tide is out) and is open to visitors and has a small museum, a visitor’s centre, and a cafe. / The lighthouse and adjacent keepers’ cottages were built in 1898 by the John Miller company of Tynemouth, using 645 blocks of stone and 750,000 bricks. It was built on the site of a monastery where a small sanctuary light would have acted as a guide to passing ships. The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1984.
