  • M51 is my favorite galaxy, and She was especially beautiful this night. I could see her spiral structure in the 250mm diameter telescope. I couldn’t resist to make a photo. She is located in the constellation Canes Venatici, we find her starting from the easternmost star of the Big Dipper, Alkaid, and going 3.5° southeast. Between 20 and 40 millions light-years away, no one knows exactly. / About 38 000 light-years diameter. / Hundreds billions stars and planet. / How many civilizations… 24 exposures of 1mn30 selected from a series of 70. Pre-processing and addition with Iris. Noise reduction with Neat Image. Curves, levels, vignetage reduction under Photoshop. — M51 est ma galaxie préférée. Généralement on l’appelle la Galaxie du Tourbillon mais je préfère l’appelé la Galaxie des Chiens de Chasses. Elle était vraiment belle cette nuit là. • This fractal design reminds me of a whirlpool. / Fractal created with Apophysis. Designer: Thea Walstra / CanDuCreations / /

  • A whirlpool caught in a long exposure in a magical place called Illinois Canyon in Starved Rock State Park in Illinois. Camera: Canon 5D / Lens: Canon 24-70mm / Filter: Heliopan thin Polarizing filter / Aperture: f18 / Exposure: 30 seconds Not the type of image I could bracket to capture exactly the same and layer the two together. What I did is save the darker version of this and worked in Curves in Photoshop and lightened it up. Then opened both images up and layered them and removed the light areas by darkening with the eraser/brush tool at about 35% by removing the lighter layer until she looked pretty.

  • Every trip to Watkins Glen State Park is a new experience, and NEVER a disappointment! Around every bend in the gorge there is an unforgettable scene, unlike anything else you have ever seen before. The stream cascades down the many steps of sedimentary rock into beautifully “carved” whirlpools, created and finely polished over eons of time. Watkins Glens State Park in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. This photo was captured with a Canon EOS 10D body fitted with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L Zoom lens, at the 27mm focal length. The shutter speed was 1/1.5 sec at f/16. The camera’s ISO was set to 400. A Manfrotto, tripod was used with a remote shutter release cable. Your comments are always welcome! Constructive criticism is appreciated. © 2009 Gene Walls All copyright and reproduction rights are retained by the artist. • Lake Falls in Matthiessen State Park is possibly the most magical, spiritual waterfall I have ever photographed. It is special and always blesses me with a wonderful spiritual feel to it. It inspires me to be religous in some way that I cannot explain. / The whirlpool is like God. He has no beginning and no end. Camera: Canon 5D / Lens: Canon 24-70mm L / Filter: Heliopan thin circular polarizer

  • This image was inspired by an artist on RB named tasdam. Tasdam’s image, “Bird River – Tasdam-1” is a fantastic image showing bright white cirlular lines captured by the camera shooting the Bird River n Tasmania. I have tried to capture anything as profound, but I did get lucky with this one. / This is the creek flowing out of Lake Falls in Matthiessen State Park in northern Illinois; my Tasmania. Camera: Canon 5D / Lens: Canon 24-70 mm / Filter: Heliopan slim polarizing filter / Exposure: 20 seconds / ISO 50 / Aperture: f22

  • I admire the work of Riley and Vasarely. Here is an old drawing of mine aimed at producing a dizzy effect. It was difficult to draw because … I kept feeling dizzy :) VIEW LARGE VERSION AND CONCENTRATE ON THE BLACK DOT IN THE CENTRE, PREFERABLY AFTER A FEW PINTS OF BEER :)

  • The River Etive in (rather unsurprisingly) Glen Etive. 3exp HDR processed in Photomatix; subsequent tarting up with CS4; Canon EOS 450D + Sigma 10-20 zoom. Featured in the following group: / Dimensions

  • We have such a magnetic attraction for what ever we think about. Thought is so powerful, positive or negative, we can think it to ourselves without too much effort. The old saying “Be careful what you think about, you just might get it” is so true. I believe that fear is an even greater attractor, because the emotion is so powerful. If you fear it, it will probably happen. The best emotion to have, as much as possible would be love. Love attracts itself, much like a pool of water reflects the sky and trees above it, our eyes will reflect the love that we have for ourselves and others. Love will then act as ripples taking our love out to others, since we are all one, that love will come back to us. Maybe that’s where the other old saying comes from, “What goes around, comes around”. Original image taken at River Bridge off of highway 62 on the way to Union Creek, Oregon Image taken with an Olympus E-520 camera and a 50mm Zuiko lens / 1/320 s, F 4.0, ISO 100 Redfield Plugins Ripples filter used over the background image, autumn leaves added as composites x3
