Just a whimsical Idea I had.
18×24 colored pencil collage. Original is available. The Caracal (Caracal caracal), also called Persian Lynx or African Lynx, is a fiercely territorial medium-sized cat. The Caracal is labeled as a small cat, but is amongst the heaviest of all small cats, as well as the fastest. / Males typically weigh about 13-18 kg (28-40 lbs), while females are smaller. The Caracal resembles a Eurasian Lynx and for a long time it was considered a close relative of the lynxes. Recent DNA research, however, has shown that the Caracal is not a close relative of lynxes at all, but is instead related to the Serval. The most conspicuous feature of the Caracal are its long, tufted black ears, which also explain the origin of its name – karakulak, Turkish for “black ear”. Its ears are controlled by 20 different muscles to help it find its prey. The tufts of fur help pinpoint its prey. / The Caracal is distributed over Africa and western Asia. Its habitat is dry steppes and semi-deserts, but also include woodlands, savanna, and scrub forest. It is a solitary, or paired, territorial cat. The Caracal may survive without drinking for a long period — the water demand is satisfied with the body fluids of its prey. It is most well-known for its skill with hunting birds; the Caracal is able to snatch a bird in flight, sometimes more than one at a time. The Caracal can jump and climb exceptionally well, which enables it to catch hyraxes better than probably any other carnivore. Its life expectancy in the wild is 12 years, or 17 years in captivity. Since it is also surprisingly easy to tame, it has been used as a hunting cat in Iran and India. The Caracal is almost impossible to see in the wild, not because there are very few of them, but because it hides extremely well. Game drives in countries such as Kenya and Botswana widely encounter other animals, but a sighting of a Caracal is extremely rare. The Caracal has been hybridised with the domestic cat at the Moscow Zoo. (info from Wikipedia)

“Going Into The LIght” has won the “Ascending Into Heaven” challenge in the group “Peace Love And Tranquility” / How wonderful this is, because it is my first challenge win and it is an image that I created from the background up, so it is even more wonderful to me. Thanks to all who voted in this challenge! “Ambrosia” is being featured in the group “Olympus And Four Thirds” thanks to the moderators of this group for this honor!
This is a 6×9 painting. Watercolors made it fun to create. It is a bit zamy but not too abstract for most folks, I think.
Water Dragons tend to be very cranky when woken. You should try to not waken any dragon, but these can be especially cranky. You could be invited to lunch… the main course that is. Poor Mr. Bluebird found that out the hard way. He should not have started singing so loudly. :o) Okay, my warped sense of humor came out on this one. I had to paint it from the fractal to make it look more like an illustration I had seen of the mythical Water Dragons. I started with Fractal Explorer as seen in “Let Sleeping Dragons Lie”. I then used Artrage and followed with Photoshop. This was pretty fun stuff and a lot of experimentation. :o) Featured in: Patchwork Sept 2009
Or wrinkles if you wish….. this is pen and ink and pencils.
There wasn’t a child to be found on this carousel, so I took my chance for a photo opp. This ride is located at one of our local malls so it’s unusual to find it empty. I simply love the rich colors and the artful whimsey of the merry go round!!!
Painted last spring. I thought this work was in my portfolio but found it wasn’t. Guess I never moved it over from my other portfolio that I closed. For those of you snowed in somewhere…..enjoy the flowers. :) Mixed media (watercolor & india ink) on Strathmore 140 lb. cold press paper….one in a series of whimsical spring paintings.
