I did this illustration in college for a children’s book I had written. Honestly, I don’t even remember the name of it. (I know, that’s bad of me…bad Steve, BAD!) I don’t remember it being all that good of a story anyway. Had something to do with a kid making a rocket ship, then going to space and having crazy adventures with space monsters. (Not exactly crazy-original).
Part of my 2:14am series A regular thought occurred; Sometimes its easier to think when the rest of the population is in the other world, the Dream world. The numbness of the cold is also a helpful mystery. Although as I thought about the Dreaming people living their other lives I envied them, If only I could sleep forever and stay as my other self for the rest of my eternity, that way my problems are lifted and a whole set of new problems can emerge, Change is good no matter how bad it may seem. Without this change we can not die, but we can not live without it. Acrylic and mixed media on stretched canvas. Created as part of a body of work for my degree show, June 2007. The title of my degree show work was “Transient Spaces” referring to derelict spaces and buildings, abandoned, forgotten and left to the elements. Using photography as a primary source of reference I attempt to capture the tragic beauty that I find in the abandoned and neglected. I find the beauty in decay is that it reminds of our own mortality. My aim was to produce paintings and photographic images that bear witness to a human presence; a representation of the human condition. I sold this painting the day after preview night.
Chromatic? Rainbowtic? Despotic? Will it burn your feet, or will your feet sink right through?
Inspired by the classic Beatle’s tune of the same name. I’ve always loved this song and have had this vision of a weeping guitar in my head for years before I attempted to photograph it. ~ I look at you all see the love there that’s sleeping / While my guitar gently weeps / I look at the floor and I see it need sweeping / Still my guitar gently weeps I don’t know why nobody told you / how to unfold you love / I don’t know how someone controlled you / they bought and sold you I look at the world and I notice it’s turning / While my guitar gently weeps / With every mistake we must surely be learning / Still my guitar gently weeps I don’t know how you were diverted / you were perverted too / I don’t know how you were inverted * / no one alerted you I look at you all see the love there that’s sleeping* / While my guitar gently weeps / I look at you all / Still my guitar gently weeps Oh, oh, oh / oh oh oh oh oh oh oh / oh oh, oh oh, oh oh / Yeah yeah yeah yeah / yeah yeah yeah yeah
